Hollywood was out in full force Friday night at the 14th annual Race to Erase MS, with organizers expecting $2.5 million to be raised at the gala.

This year's theme, Dance to Erase MS, goes a long way to dispel any myths about the disease, Davis said.

"When you first learn you have MS, you think you're never going to walk again, much less dance," said Davis, who has the disease. "If you take care of yourself, you can dance forever."

Since 1993, Davis and Hilfiger, whose sister has MS, have helped raise millions of dollars through the annual fundraiser.

The money supports Davis' foundation, whose Nancy Davis Center Davis Center is a building in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, which features numerous shops and services. The Greensburg branch of the Pennsylvania Drivers License Center is located in the building. It was originally a Sears, Roebuck and Co.  Without Walls program brings together MS experts to combat the disease that attacks the central nervous system and afflicts about 300,000 Americans.

Davis said when she was first diagnosed in 1991, doctors practically gave her a death sentence. She soon learned that many experts were unknowingly doing the same research and started the Without Walls program, bringing together the field's brightest minds.

"At the end of the day, everybody gets something," she said. "Life is a terminal illness. I've never met anybody who has got out of it alive."
