HOLLAND AMERICA LINE WINS 'BEST OVERALL CRUISE VALUE' AWARD FROM WORLD OCEAN & CRUISE LINER SOCIETY

 HOLLAND AMERICA LINE WINS 'BEST OVERALL CRUISE VALUE' AWARD
 FROM WORLD OCEAN & CRUISE LINER SOCIETY
 SEATTLE, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Holland America Line said today it has received the first-ever "Best Overall Cruise Value" award from Ocean & Cruise News, the monthly publication of the World Ocean & Cruise Liner Society, a 13-year-old organization comprised of thousands of experienced cruise travelers.
 The award was announced in the November issue, which rated all major cruise lines in a value competition.
 Holland America also was the "Best Cruise Value" award winner in the Deluxe 5-Star cruise line category.
 "A common comment we have heard over the years is the excellent value that Holland America offers to their passengers," wrote George Devol, editor and publisher of Ocean & Cruise News.
 "At a price level that is comparable to cruises on many other ships, Holland America consistently presents more to passengers. A combination of continually looking for ways to improve their product, the extra effort and money spent to train their staff, and the presentation of a wide range of 'small touches' not offered on ships of this classification, or even on ships in higher categories, all combine to offer extraordinary value for passengers."
 Devol continued, "Another clear distinction enhancing the value of a Holland America cruise is the extra sense of quality that passengers feel, both in the decor and style of the ships and in the service of the hotel staff."
 As additional elements that combine to make Holland America the best overall cruise value, Devol cited:
 -- the full range of food offered in the line's Lido restaurants;
 -- the company's "no tipping required" policy;
 -- the "impeccable appearance of the Indonesian and Filipino staff;"
 -- the more extensive choices on dinner menus;
 -- "all the 'little' extras, either overlooked or eliminated by other cruise lines, such as canvas tote bags, paying your account with a personal check, hot hors d'oeuvres at cocktail time, chilled glasses for beer, 24-hour front desk service, later lunch hours when in port, and a no-charge ice cream bar."
 A.K. Kirk Lanterman, Holland America Line president and chief executive officer, said, "We are delighted to be so honored by Ocean & Cruise News and George Devol, a respected expert on the cruise industry. This is another affirmation of Holland America Line's commitment to our 'Tradition of Excellence' grounded in our 120-year heritage of providing the best for our passengers."
 Lanterman continued, "It also is an extremely meaningful award since it comes from an authority who is experienced with cruises on many cruise lines. This award is a tremendous vote of confidence for our company and for all of the employees who make this company and its product great."
 Holland America Line operates four luxury cruise ships in Alaska, the Caribbean and Panama Canal as well as on longer cruises throughout the world. The company also has three new 55,000-gross-ton cruise ships under construction in Italy, with the first, the ms Statendam, debuting in January 1993.
 Holland America Line-Westours Inc. is part of Carnival Cruise Lines Inc. of Miami, the world's most popular cruise company.
