HOLLAND AMERICA: WORLD'S NEWEST CRUISE SHIP, THE MS STATENDAM, TO VISIT SAN FRANCISCO ON MAIDEN CRUISE

SEATTLE, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's newest cruise ship, Holland America Line's ms Statendam, will visit San Francisco on Feb. 12 and 13 at the conclusion of the ship's maiden cruise, Holland America Line-Westours said today.
The 55,451-gross-ton, 1,266-passenger Statendam, will make a port call at the passenger ship terminal at Pier 35 from 11 a.m. Feb. 12 until 10 a.m. Feb. 13.
The ship will be open only for travel agent and media visits during this port call.
The Statendam is just completing its 16-day maiden cruise from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., through the Panama Canal, with port calls at Aruba, Cartagena, the San Blas Islands, Puerto Caldera (Costa Rica), Acapulco, Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa and Puerto Vallarta. The ship will embark passengers at San Francisco for the return cruise.
The Statendam, fifth ship in Holland America Line's 120-year history to bear the name, is the first of a new generation of cruise liners for the company.
A floating masterpiece, the Statendam combines the best of Holland America tradition with state-of-the-art modern technology.
Built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, the 720-foot-long Statendam carries crew of 604.
With 10 passenger desks, the luxurious new cruise ship features spacious, elegant public rooms conveniently located on Promenade and Upper Promenade decks. An atrium highlighted by an ornate 26-foot-high Italianate fountain extends three decks, while an escalator provides easy access from staterooms on Main Deck.
A $2-million collection of art and artifacts, including original works created especially for the Statendam, continues a Holland America tradition of on-board artwork.
The Rotterdam Dining Room seats 700 on two levels connected by a pair of grand, sweeping staircases. A music balcony on Upper Promenade overlooks the main floor. Windows on three sides offer views of the sea from the stern. Adjacent to the upper dining area are two private dining areas, the King's and Queen's rooms, each seating 44.
Accented by computerized fiber-optic lighting and sound systems, the two-deck, 600-seat Van Gogh Lounge will feature elaborate revue entertainment. Other classically appointed public rooms include the signature Lido Buffet, lively Ocean Bar, regal Explorer's Lounge, entertaining Piano Bar and Crow's Nest Lounge, atop the ship overlooking the bow.
The casino offers all major games of chance and slot machines. A movie theater, meeting room complex, library, full health spa, jogging track and two pools provide additional amenities.
The Statendam features one penthouse suite and 28 suites. Each suite and deluxe stateroom has private verandah, VCR, whirlpool bath and minibar, while all staterooms are equipped with individually controlled air conditioning, telephone with computerized wakeup service, multichannel music system and closed-circuit television. Beds are convertible from one queen to two singles. Six staterooms are especially equipped to be wheelchair accessible.
