HOLIDAY SHOPPING; HOMEMADE GIFTS ARE SHOWCASED AT ARTS, CRAFTS FAIR.Byline: Angela Randazzo Staff Writer From crocheted booties to butterfly magnets to holiday doodads of every kind, the Fall Arts and Crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant. The term was coined in England in the late 19th cent. as a label for the then-current movement directed toward the revivifying of the decorative arts. It's always very nice, very pleasant.'' The arts and crafts fair is held twice a year - every spring and fall. Vendors must be 50 or older and have made the goods they are selling. Proceeds from booth rentals benefit the Council on Aging. Many of the vendors are retired people with a hobby, and they view the fair as an opportunity to showcase their wares. Others sell their handmade items for the pin money it brings in. Since retiring five years ago as a water district administrator, Beverly Barreras has earned a little extra money by selling her crocheted creations. ``I have booties, towels, socks and clothes,'' said Barreras. ``The booties take four hours to crochet. While some vendors like Simi Valley residents Angela Lopez have participated in a number of arts and crafts fairs, others like Diane Reichick are trying it for the first time.
