 ages 8 to 13, from all over Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , competed Saturday in the annual Southern California Elks National Free Throw Hoop Shoot Contest at New Vista Middle School.

After the event, the winners enjoyed lunch at the Lancaster Elks Lodge 1615, hosts of the competition.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE; also often known as the Elks Lodge or simply The Elks), is an American fraternal order and social club founded in 1868.
 started the competition in 1972 to provide a competitive basketball free-throw contest for more than three million young people nationwide. The event is funded by the Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the B.P.O.E.
