urged fans to support the playoff-bound Clippers during a timeout Friday against Sacramento.

A dismayed team official just shook his head, then sent word to the announcer to hold off on such talk until the words Clippers and playoffs could officially be linked together.

Granted, the Clippers' magic number to reach the postseason stood at one with eight games remaining in the season, meaning only a colossal fall would deny them their first playoff appearance in eight years.

But this is the Clippers, so does anyone really need to go there?

As it turns out, the Clippers will have to wait a little longer to clinch their first postseason berth since 1999-97. Ron Artest Ronald (Ron) William Artest Jr. (born November 13 1979) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays with the Sacramento Kings of the NBA. Artest gained reputation as one of the premier defenders in the game today, winning the NBA Defensive Player of the Year  saw to that Friday, controlling the final minutes of the fourth quarter to lead the Kings to a 96-93 victory over the Clippers.

It was the Kings 13th straight victory over the Clippers, a string of wins that covers three seasons. And it temporarily denies the Clippers a playoff berth they are starving for.

Artest was the difference, scoring 14 of his points in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer to tie it at 92-92 with 1:10 left and a turnaround jumper with under a minute to make it 94-92.

Brad Miller Brad Miller can refer to any of several people:

hit two free throws with 16.7 seconds left to give the Kings a 96-93 lead, and Sam Cassell Samuel (Sam) James Cassell (born November 18, 1969 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays point guard for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.  missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with 9.9 seconds. Vladimir Radmanovic misfired on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Cassell pulled the Clippers ahead late in the fourth quarter with two consecutive jumpers. His 15-footer with 4:18 remaining gave the Clippers a 86-85 lead, then he hit a jumper from the top of the key to make it 88-85.

Cassell added a 3-pointer with 2:44 to make it 91-87.

No one personifies the Clippers climb to relevancy like Elton Brand Elton Tyron Brand (born March 11, 1979 in Peekskill, New York) is an American All-Star professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers and the USA National Team. .
