HOK and Arquitectonica to Design New Atlanta Arena.


ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 1996--HOK of Atlanta (Hellmuth, Obata & Kassebaum, Inc.), in association with Arquitectonica of Miami, has been selected by Turner Broadcasting System Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (often abbreviated TBS Networks or TBS, inc.) is the company managing the collection of cable networks and properties started by Robert Edward "Ted" Turner from the mid-1970s to the late-1990s. , Inc. (TBS) to design a 20,000-seat arena for downtown Atlanta Downtown Atlanta refers to the largest financial district for the city of Atlanta.

The new arena will be the home of the National Basketball Association's Atlanta Hawks, concerts, conventions and other special events as well as a proposed National Hockey League National Hockey League (NHL)

TBS is serving as developer and is coordinating the project schedule and budget. The arena, financed by city bonds retired exclusively by revenues from the arena, will belong to the Atlanta-Fulton County Recreation Authority upon completion. TBS has committed to a goal of 36 percent minority/female contracts.

The design team, which will include local Atlanta-based consulting firms, will operate out of HOK's Atlanta office during design and construction administration phases.
