HOECHST CELANESE TO STUDY CONSOLIDATION OF NEW JERSEY OFFICE LOCATIONS
SOMERVILLE, N.J., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Hoechst Celanese Corporation announced plans today to study the consolidation of its New Jersey office locations at its corporate headquarters in Somerville by 1995.
Architectural and engineering studies will be conducted to provide all information needed to obtain corporate and community approvals.
Approximately 300 to 400 employees from leased buildings in New Jersey would relocate to the 110-acre Somerville site in several phases, under the consolidation. The phases would correspond to the completion of construction at the headquarters site and the expiration of existing leases.
New construction at the site would include office and parking facilities.
"We developed an extensive real estate strategy and concluded that maintaining multiple sites is inefficient and expensive," said Donald G. Whitcomb, vice president, business development and administration for the Life Sciences Group of Hoechst Celanese. "The consolidation would alleviate overcrowding and the inconveniences of housing employees in several separate sites. The new facilities would complement the architectural style of the buildings on site."
The move would involve corporate and Life Sciences Group employees at leased buildings in Bridgewater and Bedminster. In addition, the Advanced Materials Group in Chatham is studying a number of options, including moving employees to the Somerville site. Advanced Technology Group employees located at a leased building in Short Hills would move to the company's Robert L. Mitchell Technical Center in Summit.
About 1,400 employees currently work at the headquarters site, where corporate offices and pharmaceutical marketing, research and manufacturing facilities are located. Hoechst Celanese employs about 3,000 employees in New Jersey.
Hoechst Celanese Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hoechst AG of Germany with leading positions in chemicals, fibers, advanced materials and technologies and the life sciences.
