 HOECHST CELANESE AUTOMOTIVE TO SPONSOR
1992 J.P. McCARTHY PAL INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
DETROIT, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Hoechst Celanese Corporation, a key supplier of materials to the automotive industry, will be the presentation sponsor for the 1992 J.P. McCarthy Police Athletic League (PAL) Invitational golf tournament. The announcement was made today by J.P. McCarthy and Robert L. Rewey, vice president of Ford's North American Sales Operations and president of PAL's board of directors.
The tournament, which is named after radio personality and long-time PAL supporter McCarthy, will take place on June 29 at the Tournament Players Club of Michigan in Dearborn. The field will include several touring golf professionals including Tom Weiskopf, Wayne Levi, Kenny Knox and Danny Edwards. Invitations also will be extended to a variety of local celebrities and athletes such as John Salley and Lomas Brown. The official name of the tournament will be the J.P. McCarthy PAL Invitational presented by Hoechst Celanese.
"I am very excited about this year's invitational," said McCarthy. "The expanded corporate support will really help us make this year's event the best tournament yet."
Rewey added: "The tournament has always been one of PAL's most important fund-raisers. Hoechst Celanese Automotive has stepped forward to ensure we maintain that status -- and continue to provide tremendous benefits to PAL."
The Detroit Police Athletic League is a non-profit organization which utilizes police officers to help provide positive role models and activity for inner-city youth. In addition to managing organized athletic activities encompassing 15 different sports, PAL also provides tutoring and supplemental educational support to the youth of Detroit. The educational aspect of PAL played a major role in the Hoechst Celanese sponsorship decision.
"Hoechst Celanese Corporation takes education very seriously and tries to get involved in programs benefiting youth wherever possible," said Bob Moffett, vice president of Hoechst Celanese Automotive. "The results of the athletic and educational activities supported by PAL are long-term, far-reaching and critical to the future of our city. It was only natural for us to become involved with PAL."
Hoechst Celanese Automotive is a key supplier of materials to automotive manufacturers and suppliers throughout the world. They have offices in the Detroit area and specialize in automotive plastics, polymers, fibers and coatings. The company, which has 24 different automotive business units, also takes an active role in supporting educational programs across the country.
The J.P. McCarthy PAL Invitational golf tournament was started by J.P. McCarthy in 1973 and quickly became one of PAL's major fund-raisers. Through the years, the event has played host to a wide variety of local and national celebrities and athletes. Gallery tickets will be available at the tournament site for a $10 donation.
