HOCKEY NOTEBOOK: PLAYERS ARE DEDICATED TO ICE TIME.

Byline: Lee Barnathan Staff Writer

Joey Howard loves playing ice hockey ice hockey: see hockey, ice.

Game played on an ice rink by two teams of six players on skates. The object is to drive a puck (a small, hard rubber disk) into the opponents' goal with a hockey stick, thus scoring one point.
so much, he drove back from spring break in Laughlin, Nev., just to avoid missing a Valencia Ice Station high school league game.

Such dedication impresses the league commissioner. Too bad the schools don't seem to care.

Such is the life of league using school names and colors but isn't part of official school programs because the Southern Section doesn't sanction hockey as a sport.

The games are well attended by the players' classmates Classmates can refer to either:
  • Classmates.com, a social networking website.
  • Classmates (film), a 2006 Malayalam blockbuster directed by Lal Jose, starring Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Indragith, Sunil, Jagathy, Kavya Madhavan, Balachandra Menon, ...
and parents, but when commissioner Larry Bruyere tries to build support at the schools, he receives comments and phone calls such as one from a William S William, crown prince of Germany

It's not, but the official thought that since there are teams called the Hart Indians, Valencia Vikings, Canyon Cowboys and Saugus Centurions, the affiliation must exist.

``Like I told the guy from the school board, 'Yes, we have a team that's called the Vikings and students happen to go to Valencia,' '' Bruyere said. ``I got a chuckle out of that.''

``Our goal is to keep it popular and competitive, and let them know it's here to stay,'' Bruyere said. There already exists leagues in Riverside, El Segundo El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. --Playoff update: Saugus is undefeated (9-0) and has earned the top seed for the four-team playoffs April 28-29. Granada Hills (7-2) lost only to Saugus and is guaranteed second. Canyon has been eliminated.

Hart could have secured third place by beating the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

Northerners on Monday, but the Indians lost 7-4. Hart can get in if it beats Valencia tonight (the Indians won 9-3 in the first meeting March 26). A loss means Hart would have to beat Granada Hills on Monday (it lost 7-3 on March 19) and hope Valencia loses to the Northerners. A.V. beat the Vikings 3-1 on March 19.

Valencia gets in if it wins its last two games. If that happens, Hart's in if it beats Granada Hills. Otherwise, AV gets in.

He still plans to see the film.

--NHL watch: Several players are actively watching the NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  playoffs, especially the Kings-Red Wings series. The consensus: The Kings played well in Game 3 Sunday, but they ultimately don't have the talent to match up with Detroit.

Ever the optimist, Joseph bet a friend on the Game 3 winner and earned himself a dinner. The friend wanted to go double or nothing in Wednesday's Game 4, but Joseph didn't bite.

He'll bite at dinner instead.
