HMO PROFITS INCREASE BY 60 PERCENT IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2003.


Health maintenance organization profits increased by 60 percent during the first quarter of 2003, going up to $2.3 billion compared to $1.4 billion for the same three month period in 2002, Weiss Ratings, Inc., reported Jan. 20.

In addition, 80.2 percent of the 451 HMOs reviewed by Weiss reported a profit compared with 61.6 percent for the same period in 2002.
