This briefing paper is written in easy-to-read language aimed primarily at local health and community workers in sub-Saharan Africa. It will also be useful for health planners and managers at district level. Drawing on the latest research, the paper provides information on the issues that the high HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS.
