HIT-RUN CRASH KILLS GRANDFATHER.

GLENDALE -- Police are looking for a driver who fled after hitting and killing a grandfather with the holidays around the corner, authorities said Tuesday.

Salvador Soria Ramirez, 64, was killed about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the crash in the 1200 block of Glendale Avenue.

Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver and the car involved, believed to be a dark-colored compact similar to a Honda or Mazda, said John Balian, spokesman for the Glendale Police Department.

Although any death can be traumatic to a family, Balian said it's especially difficult at this time of year.

``It's harder during the holidays because you like to have your loved ones around you,'' he said.

The Glendale man and his daughter, Veronica Ramirez, were trying to jump-start his disabled car and were pushing it out of a parking lot when it was hit.

The force of the collision knocked the man down and pinned him beneath the car. The 33-year-old Glendale woman, thrown to the sidewalk, remained in the hospital in stable condition, Balian said.

He said the car being sought has damage stretching from the passenger side to its bumper and likely could have a broken headlight or turn signal.
