Byline: BEN VILLA Staff Writer

Tim Salmon
Timothy James "Tim" Salmon (born August 24, 1968 in Long Beach, California) is a former Major League Baseball right fielder/designated hitter who played his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim franchise.
made Angels history on Saturday night but at press-time, it wasn't clear if his efforts were going to go all for naught.

Salmon drove in his 1,000 career run and Vladimir Guerrero Vladimir Alvino Guerrero (born February 9, 1976 in Don Gregorio, Nizao, Dominican Republic), and known in his native Dominican Republic as Miquéas (Spanish for Micah), is a Major League Baseball right fielder who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  homered but the Angels and the Mariners were headed into extra innings Noun 1. extra innings - overtime play until one team is ahead at the end of an inning; e.g. baseball

at press-time, tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 10th inning in front of 43,821 people at Angel Stadium.

The Angels were looking to win their third straight game while the Mariners were hoping to snap a two-game losing streak.

Saturday night's game was originally billed as the return of Jarrod Washburn Jarrod Michael Washburn (born August 13, 1974 in La Crosse, Wisconsin) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. Drafted by the California Angels in the 2nd round of the 1995 amateur draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Washburn won the final game .

Washburn spent his first seven years as an Angel and was the ace of the staff in 2002 when the Angels won the World Series.

But Washburn was allowed to leave after the 2005 campaign and he signed with the Mariners as a free-agent.

In the top of the second inning however, Vladimir Guerrero treated his former teammate rather rudely when he hit his ninth home run of the season to left field to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.

The Mariners however quickly tied the game in the top of the third inning when Yuniesky Betancourt Yuniesky Betancourt (Rikimbilly in Cuba) (born: January 31, 1982, in Santa Clara, Cuba) is a Major League Baseball shortstop for the Seattle Mariners. His early career was spent in the Cuban leagues, including Villa Clara of the Serie Nacional.  hit his first homer of the season off Angels starter John Lackey John Derran Lackey (born October 23, 1978, in Abilene, Texas) is a major league baseball starting pitcher from Abilene, Texas. He has played for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim his entire career. .

But in their half of the third inning, the Angels scored three times off Washburn and Salmon made history. Washburn got the first two batters of the inning out but he then gave up singles to Orlando Cabrera Orlando Luis Cabrera (born November 2, 1974 in Cartagena, Colombia) is a Major League Baseball shortstop who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He bats and throws right-handed.  and Garret Anderson Garret Joseph Anderson (born June 30, 1972 in Los Angeles, California) is a Major League Baseball left fielder who has played his entire career for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  and Guerrero walked to load the bases for Salmon, who needed one RBI RBI

Washburn quickly jumped on top of him but on a 1-2 pitch, Salmon lined a single to center field scoring Cabrera and Anderson to give the Angels a 3-1 lead.

The RBI were 1,000 and 1,001 in Salmon's career and with it, he joined Anderson (1,066) as the second player in franchise history to drive in 1,000 career runs.

(1,209) have driven in 1,000 career runs with a single franchise.

"After thinking I might never play again and missing all of last yea, it's nice that I'm able to add to those numbers,'' Salmon said. "But it just shows what you can do when you play a long time.''

Juan Rivera followed Salmon's single with one of his own and that drove Guerrero with the Angels fourth run.

But the Mariners fought back, scoring twice in the fourth inning compliments of singles by Richie Sexon and Carl Everett and two wild pitches thrown by Lackey.

The second allowed Sexon to score and Adrian Beltre then drove in Everett after he hit a ball to third base, but Chone Figgins couldn't play it cleanly and Beltre reached on an error.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Mariners tied the game at 4-4 when former Long Beach State star Jeremy Reed hit his second home run in as many days.

The Angels had a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when they put runners on first and second with two out to chase Washburn.

Washburn wound up pitching five and fr 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and four runs before he gave way to Rafael Soriano.

"It's weird being back here and in the visitors clubhouse,'' Washburn said. "But I had a great career with the Angels and I have a lot of great memories of this place.''

Soriano walked Cabrera to load the bases but he came back get Anderson to pop up to second base to end the inning.

Then in the seventh inning, Rivera and Robb Quinlan singled with two outs but Adam Kennedy, who pinch hit for Jose Molina, grounded out to second base to once agan end the threat.

The Mariners threatened in the top of the ninth inning when they put two runners on against Francisco Rodriguez, but the Angels closer managed to get pinch hitter Roberto Petagine to ground out to end the inning.
