The 85-year-old play-by-play man said neither his recent hip surgery, nor his heart-valve replacement in December, had dimmed his resolve to get back behind the microphone.

``I'll tell you one thing for sure, it'll be in March, not in April,'' Hearn said.

announcer gripped a walker and donned a white Lakers cap while addressing reporters. He credited his speedy recovery to the team, hospital staff and fans who sent get-well mail.

``Marge and I opened every one and read every single one,'' he said.

Hearn had announced 3,338 consecutive Lakers games - dating back to 1965 - before he had heart surgery in December.

On Feb. 17, when he was still recovering from that surgery, he slipped and broke his left hip while getting out of his car. Two days later, surgeons replaced the ball that connected the femur femur (fē`mər): see leg.  to his hip socket.

Lakers spokesman John Black said while the Lakers miss Hearn, they want him to receive a green light from doctors before returning to the announcers' booth.

``He is going to be back eventually and it will be a wonderful moment,'' Black said. ``If it's at the end of March or April, it doesn't matter. What matters is that he's completely (ready).''

Hearn has been undergoing physical therapy at the hospital and will continue the regimen regimen /reg·i·men/ (rej´i-men) a strictly regulated scheme of diet, exercise, or other activity designed to achieve certain ends.

``He is expected to have a full recovery,'' said Jamie Terrence, a nurse manager at the hospital.

After speaking with the media Hearn was escorted to a silver Lexus for the trip home.
