HILTON TO BE RENAMED DOUBLETREE HOTEL PHILADELPHIA; DOUBLETREE HOTEL CHAIN AWARDED MANAGEMENT CONTRACT

 Broad Street Property to Become an East Coast Anchor
 PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Doubletree Hotels


Corporation, which operates luxury and deluxe properties in 27 states and Canada, has been awarded a long-term contract to manage the hotel formerly known as the Philadelphia Hilton & Towers, which will be renamed Doubletree Hotel Philadelphia. The changes in both hotel management and name will become effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1.
 The selection of Doubletree Hotels by Lobro Associates, owners of the 427-room property at Broad and Locust streets in Center City, completes an extensive interview process in which most major national hotel chains participated. The hotel was formerly managed by HERCO Inc., whose contract expires at midnight tonight.
 According to James E. Grier, president of the Phoenix-based chain, Doubletree Hotels has long sought an appropriate opportunity to enter the market to enhance its exposure along the Northeast corridor, and has targeted Philadelphia as an East Coast anchor for its burgeoning network of properties.
 "The grand opening of the Pennsylvania Convention Center and the transformation of Broad Street into an Avenue of the Arts have reinforced our enthusiasm for Philadelphia as an exceptional place in which to do business," Grier noted. "We look with great anticipation to playing a significant role in the rebirth and new vitality of the city's business, financial and cultural district."
 Grier added that a successful conclusion to current merger negotiations between Doubletree Hotels, a subsidiary of Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts, and Guest Quarters, which operates four properties in the area, would further underscore the strategic importance of the Center City hotel.
 While acknowledging that it is too early to identify specific operational and capital improvements that will be made to further enhance performance, Grier stressed that the hotel's overriding objective will be to provide its guests with high quality accommodations, services and amenities.
 Style, Enthusiasm Key To Selection
 Norman Wolgin, general partner of Lobro Associates, predicts that Doubletree's operating style and corporate enthusiasm will pump new life into the area.

 Kirsch Named Interim Conversion General Manager
 Lloyd Kirsch, whose career in hotel management spans more than two decades, will lead the hotel conversion team.
 Prior to his arrival, Kirsch served as general manager of the Doubletree Hotel at Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey, Calif., and was previously general manager of the Doubletree Hotel Santa Clara. A graduate of Cornell University's prestigious School of Hotel Administration, he successfully opened hotels in the Los Angeles and New York metropolitan areas.
 Kirsch has received the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designation from the American Hotel & Motel Association, and has served as a guest lecturer in hotel and restaurant management at several universities.
 Long active in professional, civic and community affairs, Kirsch is president-elect of the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau. He has also served on the board of directors of the United Way of the Monterey Peninsula, and as president of the Monterey County Hospitality Association. He is a member of Rotary International, the American Institute of Wine and Food, and the Cornell Society of Hotelmen, and is a former director of the Monterey Wine Festival Educational Foundation.
 Management Team In Place
 The only other addition to the hotel's existing management team will be Jay Rosenthal, who has been named by Doubletree to serve as director of rooms.
 Former HERCO managers who will be staying on with Doubletree at Doubletree Hotel Philadelphia will be Ken Duff, controller; Karen Colliton, director of marketing and sales; Fred Bubeck, director of employee relations; Melanie Boileau, director of human resources; Michael Staples, director of food and beverage; and Matt Calabria, director of engineering.
 Founded in 1969 by Management Associates, Doubletree Hotels Corporation was originally intended to become one of the leading hotel chains in the Western United States. Since 1991, however, the company has enhanced its presence east of the Mississippi with the addition of hotels in such markets as Baltimore, Washington, Newport, R.I. and Boston, where Doubletree serves as the management company for a 113-room inn owned by Harvard Realty.
 With the addition of the Philadelphia property, Doubletree Hotels Corporation operates 59 Doubletree Hotels and Doubletree Club Hotels. Together with parent company Canadian Pacific Hotels Corporation, it manages 86 hotels and resorts and 28,000 guest rooms throughout North America.
