HIKING: FIVE-STAR HIKE MULTIDAY OUTINGS OFFERED WITH LUXURIOUS ACCOMMODATIONS.

Byline: Bill Becher Special to the Daily News

Tell people you are going on a multiday hiking vacation and they think: low budget.

But you can go on a hiking trip and sleep in a comfortable bed, enjoy fine wine and gourmet meals and skip the tent and freeze-dried food that even an airline wouldn't serve.

Ann Carolin and her 69-year-old mother, Retta Kern, are exploring the hills and beaches around Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850.  on a trip with The Wayfarers. The company offers deluxe walking tours in Europe, New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. , and now the U.S.

The Santa Barbara trip includes six-nights' lodging and five-and-a-half days of hiking from 7 to 9 miles each day. Guests stay at upscale bread- and-breakfast inns and small hotels.

This is Carolin's fourth and Kern's seventh trip with the company. They enjoy the slower pace of hiking vacations. Even though mother and daughter live within a few miles of each other near Atlanta, busy schedules keep them from spending time "Spending Time" is the first single released by Christian artist Stellar Kart.

The lyrics describe the band members desire to spend "more time with God". "Sometimes it’s a real struggle to spend time with God.
 together without distractions.

``This is the only time we can finish a conversation,'' Carolin said.

This day they're hiking Rattlesnake Canyon Rattlesnake Canyon is the name of a number of scenic canyons in the Southwestern United States:

White sage and bay laurel perfumes the up-and-down jaunt that crosses a small stream at several points and even includes a tiny waterfall. The hike ends at an Episcopal monastery with an inspirational view of Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands.

The next day the hikers were to take a boat to Santa Cruz Island San·ta Cruz Island

and hike along the bluffs before returning to Santa Barbara the same day.

The week's adventures also included a hike-and-sip day exploring Santa Barbara's wine country in the Santa Ynez Valley The Santa Ynez Valley is located in Santa Barbara County, California, between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the San Rafael Mountains. The Santa Ynez River flows through the valley from east to west. . The group hiked at Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes The Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes is the largest remaining dune system south of San Francisco and the second largest in the state of California.[1] [2] It encompasses an 18-mile stretch of coastline on the Central Coast of California and extends from southern San , the tallest sand dunes in California, and explored trails around Cachuma Lake.

Australian dentist Howard Freeman likes active vacations, saying, ``I'm too old to play on the beach and too young for a cruise.'' This is the third trip with The Wayfarers for Freeman and his wife, Lorraine, who have hiked the Italian Lake District and the south of France South of France south n the South of France → le Sud de la France, le Midi .

Aside from the exercise, relaxed pace and deluxe lifestyle, the group also enjoys being able to leave the gear schlepping and navigation to someone else.

The Santa Barbara hikes are led by John McKinney John McKinney is the name of:

He said The Wayfarers began 20 years ago in England. The concept was to combine a day in the outdoors with good food and fine lodging. The American branch of the company started in 1999 in Westlake Village and now offers other hiking vacations in California's wine country and coast, the coast of Maine, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.

The territory hiked reflects local land ownership patterns. In the U.S., most hikes are on public land. In more-developed Europe, the hikes often cross private property - farmer's fields on routes that have been used since Roman times.

On the last day the hikers lunch at the San Ysidro Ranch, where Jackie and John F. Kennedy "John Kennedy" and "JFK" redirect here. For other uses, see John Kennedy (disambiguation) and JFK (disambiguation).

Another benefit of a walking vacation: the exercise means guilt-free eating.
