HIGHER GAS PRICES LEAD TO RIDE ON ORANGE LINE.Byline: -- Mark Kellam When I saw the price of low-grade gasoline gasoline or petrol, light, volatile mixture of hydrocarbons for use in the internal-combustion engine and as an organic solvent, obtained primarily by fractional distillation and "cracking" of petroleum, but also obtained from natural gas, by go over $3 a gallon on March 7, I made a decision to try to cut my gas consumption. It's not because I'm zealous about saving the environment, though that is a good thing. I'm sick and tired of gasoline companies ripping (1) Converting an audio CD from its native CD-DA format to MP3, AAC or some other compressed audio format. When the term was coined, it had a perverse meaning. Many loved the idea they were "ripping off" the music industry by making copyrighted works available in a compact format me off. So, I decided to try the Orange Line, which goes from North Hollywood to Warner Center, traveling on a road designated for buses most of the way. On March 8, I did about an hour's worth of work at home. I figured there would be fewer people taking the bus at 9:30 a.m. I drove over the hill to the Laurel Canyon Laurel Canyon can refer to several things:
The bus arrived fairly quickly. Even though the bus had only a few passengers, it still took 45 minutes to get to Warner Center. Then, I walked about 10 minutes to work. That's an hour -- and with no delays. The commute home took about 10 minutes longer because the bus was more crowded. My initial reaction was: Well, I can drive just as quickly and, on good days, I get to work and home faster than taking the Orange Line. But then I had to remind myself the real reason I took the bus. No, it may not save me much time, but hopefully it will save me a little cash and I can take pride in knowing I'm doing my little part to stick it to the (gas) man.
