HIGH-SPEED CHASE ENDS IN ARRESTS.

LANCASTER - Two ex-convicts led deputies on a chase Tuesday night along Lancaster streets and across Antelope Valley College lawns, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph, before the car they were in crashed into another vehicle.

Sheriff's deputies said they believe parolees Wesley White, 31, the driver, and Jamie Jinkins, 23, the passenger, were both under the influence of methamphetamine, and that the 1987 Honda CRX they were in was stolen.

``It was very fortunate that no one was hurt during this pursuit,'' said Deputy Donald Rubio. ``These two men obviously had no regard for the lives of our residents.''

The Honda's occupants ran after the crash, which slightly injured the 19- year-old woman driving the other car, and White and Jinkins were found in the back yards of homes in the 42000 block of Ana Madre Street.

The Honda contained stolen checks and credit cards, as well as blank checks and materials to make bank cards. A laptop computer and stereo, also believed to be stolen, were found in the car.

Checks and credit cards were thrown out of the car during the chase, deputies said.

Criminal charges from the chase could amount to White's third strike under the state's ``three strikes, you're out'' law, deputies said.

He had been convicted in May 1998 after a televised two-hour chase from Lancaster to Santa Clarita and back again in a stolen truck. White was the passenger that time.

He was also convicted of burglary in 1995.

White had stopped reporting to his parole officer after his latest release from prison, deputies said.

Deputies first tried to stop the Honda coupe about 9:30 p.m. on 35th Street East near Avenue H-6 for speeding and swerving into the oncoming traffic lane.

As the patrol car tried to catch up, deputies said, they saw the car drive past stop signs and red lights and swerve into the other lane, narrowly missing other cars.

When the deputies turned on the patrol car's lights and siren, the car accelerated to 100 mph. At Antelope Valley College, the car pulled into a parking lot, then onto a sidewalk and across lawns at nearly 40 mph.

The Honda drove through a chain barrier and into a parking lot and then out onto 30th Street West.

The Honda turned east on Avenue K-4 and raced toward 25th Street West, where it hit another car.

The other driver was treated at the scene and released.

White was arrested on suspicion of evading, possession of a controlled substance, hit and run with injuries, fleeing the scene of a collision, grand theft auto, and driving under the influence.

Jinkins was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, grand theft auto, fleeing the scene of a collision and evading.

Both men were also held on parole violations.
