After both teams set division records for points en route to winning titles last season, they returned to this year's finals deeper, faster and stronger. The result was the most dominant performances in the six-year history of the Div. IV championship meet.

Oaks Christian's boys swept all three relays, breaking their own records in the 200 medley med·ley

and triumphs in the 200medley (1 minute, 55.01 seconds) and 400 free (3:40.61) relays, bettered its own total from last year by 11 points to win with 262.

``It's really cool that we were able to do it again,'' said Bibb, who increased her career total to nine titles - five individual and four relays - with her victories in the 100 (51.2) and 200 frees (1:55.01).

``With all of our seniors leaving, they really made this night what it was. It just felt really good to finish off the season like this.''

Laura DeCesare took second in the 200 individual medley (2:10.42) and fourth in the 100backstroke (1:02.56) for LaReina, which dedicated its repeat effort to coach Joe Comeau, who announced he will retire at the end of the season.

For Oaks Christian coach Dave Moore Dave Moore is an English name which may refer to:

  • Dave Moore (American football player) (1969- ), American long snapper/tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
, it appears his run may only be starting.

In addition to the boys' dominance, junior Allison Hall won titles in the 100 butterfly butterfly, any of a large group of insects found throughout most of the world; with the moths, they comprise the order Lepidoptera. The Lions' 200 free relay team repeated as champion, with Kelsey Farrar, Erin Rosas, Alex Kaplan and Lauren Rowlands clocking 1:42.31.

And every time the Oaks Christian girls captured an event, the boys followed suit, bettering their own division records in fourevents and adding a victory from Nolan Koon in the 200 IM (1:55.18).

``I saw that it was going to be a race, so I thought let's make it a good one,'' said Koon, who contributed to the medley relay record (1:36.78) and took second in the breaststroke (59.44) to help Oaks Christian break Mission Viejo's 1996 Div. I mark of 396.5 points. ``We got off to a really good start and it was great that we were able to keep it going.''

Nielsen's marks of 50.58 in the 100 butterfly and 52.25 in the 100 backstroke gave him three division records and kept him unbeaten in eight championship races in his career.

``I was honestly more excited about what the team could do because I knew we had a chance to break the scoring record,'' said Nielsen, who teamed with Michael Blanchard, Michael Craft and Jonnie Pare -- second in the 200 free and 100 butterfly -- to clock 3:13.14 in the 400 free relay.
