Launched in 1988, Prodigy was the first consumer-oriented online service in the U.S. . For most of his life, the only place his swing would be considered sweet was on a baseball field. A couple years ago, his buddies See buddy list. took him out on the golf course. The swing didn't exactly translate. ``I was pretty bad at first. I hit a lot of toppers and grounders,'' said the Harvard-Westlake of Studio City freshman. The seed had been planted though. Scher was hooked, and it didn't take him long to trade in his baseball bat for a set of clubs. He started taking lessons almost immediately. Within a few months, he'd broken 90. Two years later, he's one of the best freshmen golfers in the area. Scher won the Mission League individual title with a 3-under 141 in the two-round league championships at Griffith Park's Wilson Course. He shot a 1-over 73 in the Southern Section's Northern Divisional championship at Sterling Hills last week. This morning, Scher will tee off at the Southern Section's Southern Regional at Alisal's River Course in Solvang. The top 24 finishers will qualify for the Southern Section individual finals next Monday at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs. ``I set a goal for myself this year of getting to state,'' he said. Asked if he realized how crazy that sounded for a someone who hasonly been playing golf for two years, Scher just shrugged. ``I've had to completely change my swing,'' he said. ``Putting came pretty easy to me. It felt pretty natural. But I've also worked really hard and taken a lot of lessons.'' --City Section: The two-day City Section team championship begins this morning at Griffith Park's Harding Course and it looks like one of the most wide-open field in years. Last season, he was the runner-up to Murrieta Valley's Rickie Fowler Rickie Fowler is an amateur golfer from Murrieta, California. He is most noteably known as the top ranked amateur golfer in the World Amateur Golf Ranking starting August 7, 2007. at the CIF/SCGA tournament despite shooting a 5-under 67. Amira and Fowler have been friends for a long time, and they frequently play together in junior golf tournaments.
