HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS : CITY SECTION.JEFFERSON (7-3) at GRANADA HILLS (10-0) City Championship playoffs, 7 p.m. Jefferson outlook: Jefferson, which made the 3A semifinals last year, features one the region's best overall players in RB/LB Bayon Harris. But the Southeastern Conference has done little to prepare the Democrats for a sophisticated passing attack. Granada Hills outlook: Momentum is not a problem after knocking off longtime Valley bully Taft on Friday. Peter Gunny (47 receptions, 10 TDs) has saved Granada's last two wins with second-half interceptions. The key: Granada Hills needs to continue its trend of opportunistic football. Stopping heavily recruited Harris, who had 302 yards two weeks ago against Garfield, is a top priority. Getting there: 405 north to Devonshire, turn left. At Zelzah, turn right; stadium on left-hand side. CRENSHAW (6-4) at TAFT (8-2) City Championship playoffs, 7 p.m. Crenshaw outlook: The Cougars played a strong schedule - their losses came to Taft, Loyola, Banning and Dorsey. QB-DB Keenan Carter, a senior, is key to the Cougars' success. Taft outlook: The Toreadors had their 20-game Northwest Valley Conference winning streak snapped last week by Granada Hills. Even though Taft is the most skilled City team in the area, the Toreadors were burned by four turnovers against the Highlanders. The key: Taft won 38-22 when these teams met in Week 2. All the Toreadors need to do is not turn the ball over. Getting there: School is on corner of Winnetka and Ventura in Woodland Hills. EL CAMINO REAL (5-4-1) at VENICE (10-0) City Championship division, 7 p.m. El Camino Real outlook: The Conquistadores, the No. 15 seed, have their hands full. RBs De Angelo Nedd (834 yards and a team-high 12 TDs) and Deontra Hargrove (658 yards) must generate some offense. Venice outlook: Venice has never won a City title, but the Gondoliers hope J.P. Losman's arm can change that. The UCLA-bound QB has completed 139 of 225 for 3,009 yards and 44 TDs. He has three excellent receivers. The key: Teams have had trouble stopping Losman. If he's ineffective, so are the Gondoliers. But don't count on it. Getting there: 405 South and get off at Venice Blvd. Go right to the school, at 13000 Venice Blvd. SAN PEDRO (6-4) at SYLMAR (7-2-1) City Championship playoffs, 7:30 p.m. San Pedro outlook: The two-time defending 4A City champions have struggled, but the Pirates are always dangerous in the playoffs. Sylmar outlook: Sylmar has reeled off six consecutive victories. The Spartans have the top-ranked offense and defense in the Valley and are led by David Contreras' 1,064 yards rushing and Corey Neal's 914 yards. The Key: Sylmar must find ways to get the ball into Neal's hands and mix the pass and run to be effective against a tenacious Pirates defense. Getting there: 210 freeway, exit Polk going east, then south on Dronfield to the school. KENNEDY (7-3) vs. DORSEY (7-2-1) at Jackie Robinson Stadium, 7 p.m. City Championship playoffs, 7 p.m. Kennedy outlook: Ruben Zaragoza has passed for 1,273 yards, and Jason Jones (680 yards) and Jerome Williams (465 yards) lead the rushing for the 14th-seeded Golden Cougars, who have struggled on occasion but nearly knocked off undefeated, top-seeded Granada Hills. Dorsey outlook: The third-seeded Dons, led by the running of Lonnie Honeycutt, Nevin McGee and Major Cobb and a solid defense sparked by Cobb and Asa Taylor, earned a share of the Southern Pacific Conference title with a 36-35 win over co-champion Banning - which came within a point of upsetting nationally ranked Long Beach Poly. The key: Dorsey's quick defense looms large in a matchup of quality programs which have both enjoyed standout big-game efforts this year. Getting there: South on 405 Freeway to Santa Monica Freeway; east on Santa Monica Freeway to La Brea Avenue; right on La Brea to Rodeo Road; left on Rodeo to stadium on left, across the street from Dorsey High. RESEDA (6-4) at NARBONNE (4-6) 2 p.m. City Division playoffs, 7 p.m. Reseda outlook: The Regents KO'd Poly 56-8 in the finale behind Joe Looney's 182 yards and three TDs - including a 90-yarder - so there is no lack of firepower. Narbonne outlook: Narbonne limps into the tournament with four straight losses and in dire need of a wakeup call. The key: Reseda has improved since consecutive early season shutout losses to Birmingham and Van Nuys, winning five of its last six. The Regents must not regress. Getting there: 405 South to 110 South. Exit Sepulveda, turn right to go to Western, turn left. School is a block or two down Western. JORDAN (5-5) at SAN FERNANDO (6-4) City Division playoffs, 7 p.m. Jordan update: The Bulldogs come out of the Southeastern Conference and posted an upset of Locke (seeded eighth in the City bracket). San Fernando update: The Tigers found ways other than Major Caldwell's running to score in their season-ending 35-31 win over Birmingham. QB Larry Brown is coming on. The key: Caldwell (1,490 yards, 13 TDs) is still the fourth-seeded Tigers' meal ticket. Getting there: 5 North to Van Nuys Blvd. offramp, rt to Laurel Canyon, left to Chamberlin, school is at intersection of Chamberlin and Omelvany. HOLLYWOOD (6-4) at VAN NUYS (7-3) City Division playoffs, 7 p.m. Hollywood outlook: QB Chris Colon, WR Rene Rodriguez and RB Arlin Bahnassi are offensive threats for the Northern Conference Sheiks. They proved resilient in close midseason loss to playoff qualifier Eagle Rock. Van Nuys outlook: Bobby Hernandez (1,573 yards passing, 13 TDs), Alex Aguilar (561 yards rushing) and Jermaine Lucious (25 catches, 8 TDs) helped third-seeded Wolves finish second in the Valley Pac-8 Conference and their defense posted shutouts in wins over playoff qualifiers Hamilton (48-0) and Reseda (10-0). The key: The Wolves need to repeat the balanced offense and good defense that has characterized their second solid season in three years. Getting there: West three blocks on Victory Boulevard from Van Nuys Boulevard to Kester Avenue; right on Kester to stadium on right. SOUTH GATE at CHATSWORTH City Division playoffs, 7:30 Chatsworth outlook: After winning five of their first six, the Chancellors have lost their last four. The talent is there. QB Matt Cassel is the area's top City Section passer. WRs Reggie Lee and Mark Harris are key. A shaky defense gives up 320 yards per game. South Gate outlook: A defensive-oriented team led by LB Reggie Alcantar. Offensively, South Gate runs the scramble flex, an offshoot of the West Coast offense. The Rams are uncertain at QB, where two players split time. The key: Chatsworth is OK if the defense steps up. Getting there: North on De Soto, between Lassen and Devonshire. EAGLE ROCK (6-4) at BELL (5-5) City Division playoffs, 7 p.m. Eagle Rock outlook: Eleventh-seeded Eagle Rock, which features a strong defense (219.9 yards per game) and an excellent sophomore QB (Torwin Session), are 1-2 against teams in the Division bracket. Bell outlook: Bell, also nicknamed the Eagles, is seeded sixth. Its top player is Ramon Ochoa, who playes QB and RB. He scored 5 TDs last week. The key: Eagle Rock has been inconsistent, but it must establish the run if it is to match last year's quarterfinal appearance. Getting there: 710 south, Florence exit, west on Florence, go right on Atlantic, left on Bell, school is on left. SOUTHERN SECTION LOYOLA (8-1-1) at A.B. MILLER (9-1) at Colton High Div. I, 7:30 p.m. Loyola outlook: The Cubs...a wild-card team? That's what happens when you lose and tie your last two games in the four-team Del Rey League. No matter, Loyola has the ability to win the Division I championship. A.B. Miller outlook: Nine wins in 10 games wasn't enough to win the Citrus Belt league, which powerhouse Fontana won after beating the Rebels 16-14. QB Sean Lanzarotto made his first start in that one after starter Alan F lores went down with a broken ankle. Lanzarotto seems to have come into his own. The key: Which Cubs team shows up. The one that beat Hart and destroyed Alemany, or the one that lost to Notre Dame and tied Bisop Amat. Getting there: 10 freeway west to Rancho. North to Valley. School on corner. HIGHLAND (3-7) vs. HART (8-2) at College of the Canyons Div. III, 7 p.m. Highland outlook: Led by RB Brandon McElvaine, the Bulldogs have closed fairly succesfully, winning two of three. McElvaine has 1,142 yards (5.2 avg.) and 10 TDs, but without a passing attack (440 yards for the season) nor big-time players on defense the visitors are in big trouble. Hart outlook: Kyle Boller has passed for 3,721 yards and 46 TDs with two INTs. Jerry Owens (63 catches, 21.8 avg., 16 TDs) is out (broken leg), but top-seeded Hart features three others with 33 catches or more. The key: Boller doesn't get hit by a bus on way to game. Getting there: 5 North to Valencia Blvd., turn right. Stadium on right-hand side. CANYON (6-4) at LANCASTER (8-2) Div. III, 7:30 p.m. Canyon update: The Cowboys fell out of Foothill League contention with losses to Valencia (12-9) and Hart (48-10). But Canyon could be a playoff sleeper. Lancaster update: The Eagles had a breakthrough effort in the program's second varsity season. Lancaster has one of the area's best defenses led by active DBs Dominic Flax and Jason Jacobs and LB Donald Forshee. Lancaster hopes to have senior RB Danny Pagnella back from an injury. The key: It may be the first round's best matchup. Canyon had to deal with Hart's air raid a week ago. Now the Cowboys take on a Lancaster team that hasn't gained a yard through the air the past two weeks. Getting there: Take Avenue I exit off 14 freeway. Go west on I, then right on 32nd Street West. Stadium and school on left. PALMDALE (6-4) at ST. PAUL (8-2) Div. III, 7:30 p.m. Palmdale update: The Falcons lost 33 seniors off their 1997 Golden League championship team but finished a respectable 3-2 in the Golden League. The Falcons might get injured QB Johnathan Thompson back but have two strong RBs in Marquis Murray (918 yards) and Anthony Diggs (448). St. Paul update: The Swordsmen were an upset loss by Alemany away from winning the Mission League. The key: Palmdale needs an extraordinary effort to advance. Getting there: From the 605 freeway, take the Telegraph exit and go East. Turn left at Greenleaf Avenue to school. ST. FRANCIS (5-5) at MUIR (4-5-1) Div. III, 7:30 p.m. St. Francis outlook: The Knights, who haven't had a winning or losing streak of more than two games, played Mission League champion Alemany tough. Even though they feature a promising sophomore QB in John Sciarra (1,240 yards, 12 TDs, 11 INTs), the Knights are a running team. RB Murice Law has 910 yards and 8 TDs. Muir outlook: The Mustangs, who rallied to get into the playoffs, have been outscored 292-171 and outgained by an average of 110 yards per game (307-197). RB James Samuel, who got off to a slow start, has 929 yards and 11 TDs. The key: The Mustangs eliminated the Knights in the playoffs last year, 35-14. Look for Sciarra to throw more passes than last week's six. Getting there: 210 freeway west to Lincoln, north on Lincoln to school. PASADENA (4-5-1) at ALEMANY (7-3) Div. III, 7:30 p.m. Pasadena outlook: The Bulldogs were 4-3 before QB Victor Anderson (659 yards) broke the index finger on his right (throwing) hand and went out of the season. Tony Simon, who had 4 INTs at free safety, stepped in for Anderson, but the team has struggled. Alemany outlook: The Indians average 33.9 points, fourth-best in the area. Sophomore RB De'Andre Scott (893 yards, 15 TDs) tried to play with a sprained left ankle last week but only had four carries. He should start. QB Casey Clausen is second in the area with 25 TD passes and 2,570 yards. Five Indians have at least 20 catch es. The key: The Indians have been prone to ill-timed turnovers in their last two games. Getting there: 405 freeway north to Rinaldi exit, north on Sepulveda, east on Rinaldi. School is on left. CRESCENTA VALLEY (6-4) vs. VALENCIA (7-3) at Canyon High Div. III, 7:30 p.m. Crescenta Valley outlook: It's been a tough season for the Falcons, who lost two Pacific League games by a combined three points. Valencia outlook: Every week RB Manuel White (1,437 yards, 17 TDs) gets more healthy, and that's trouble for Crescenta Valley. The key: If White runs havoc, it could be a long night for the Falcons. Getting there: 405/5 North to 14 North. Exit Via Princessa and go West to White Canyon. Right on Nadal St., left at West Nadal. SAUGUS (3-7) at ARCADIA (8-2) Div. III, 7:30 p.m. Saugus outlook: The Centurions snuck into the playoffs as the fourth team from the Foothill League. Coach Ron Hilton's squad has a powerful one-two punch with QB David Parker and Sean Stoddard. But the defense has allowed 31.4 points a game. Arcadia outlook: The Apaches have won six consecutive and their 12th Pacific League title outright since 1989. They are balanced with RB Quincy Williams (694 yards, 11 TDs) and RB Mark Carroll (41 of 94, 699 yards, 10 TDs). The key: If Saugus can expose Arcadia's weak secondary, the Centurions might be in luck. Getting there: 101 South to the 134, which becomes the 210. Exit Santa Anita and go South to Campus Drive. Make a right to the school at 180 Campus Dr. CRESPI (5-5) at LITTLEROCK (10-0) Div. III, 7:30 p.m. Crespi outlook: The Celts have lost five in a row, including a 56-13 decision to St. Paul in the finale. RB Blake Tibbits (463 yards rushing, 19 receptions) leads a balanced attack. Littlerock update: RBs Rodney Woods (1,133 yards, 15 TDs) and Keith Williams (838 yards, eight TDs) are both top-notch. QB Richard Newton (363 yards passing, one TD) is the region's only star ter without an INT. Lineman Ben Smith and LBs Mike Arvizo and Adam Fabela spark the defense. The Key: Littlerock looks to keep pushing bodies out of its way on the power pitch. If so, the Lobos are hard to stop. Getting there: 5 freeway north to 14 fwy north, exit Palmdale Bl. right, 15 miles to 110th st. East, right to school. SANTA BARBARA (6-4) at CAMARILLO (7-3) Div. IV, 7:30 p.m. Santa Barbara outlook: Injuries have racked the Dons, who rename themselves the Golden Tornadoes for the playoffs in a tradition that dates back to the '30s. Quarterback Nick Domanelli has passed for 450 yards and rushed for 350. Camarillo outlook: The Scorpions were merrily rolling along for seven weeks before being upended by Hueneme 46-6 in the Pacific View League championship game Friday. Garrett Valencia has passed for 1,588 yards and 12 touchdowns. Greg Rountree leads the running game with 572 yards. The key: About as evenly matched a first game as there is in the region. Camarillo must get back to its strength - defense. Valencia and the offense must play better than last week. Getting there: 101 north, exit Santa Rosa Rd. go right, left on Adolfo Rd., left on Mission Oaks Bl. Field on left. VENTURA (4-5-1) at NEWBURY PARK (7-2) Div. IV, 7:30 Newbury Park outlook: The Panthers surprised by winning the Marmonte League championship, the key being a 32-25 upset against Westlake. There have been more talented N.P. teams, but with experienced senior QB Nick Czernek, this team finds a way to win. Ventura outlook: The Cougars finished fourth in the Channel League and were inconsistent. Their strength is potent ground attack led by Tyler Ebell (1,115 yards). The key: Newbury Park needs to jump on Ventura early and get up by a couple of touchdowns. The Cougars, who like to play with the lead with their option offense, don't have the firepower to mount big comebacks. Getting there: 101 North to Wendy Dr. Left to Old Conejo Dr. Right to R eino Rd. Turn left. WESTLAKE (8-1-1) at SAN MARCOS (3-7) Div. IV, 7:30 Westlake outlook: When healthy, the Warriors have more talent then almost any team they face. San Marcos outlook: Don't be misled by the Royals' record, five of their losses were forfeits. They have one of the top QB prospects in the country in Bradlee Van Pelt. The key: The Warriors need to contain Van Pelt, a running/passing threat who can win games with minimal help from others. Getting there: 101 North to Turnpike Rd. Left at stoplight across freeway. School on left. MOORPARK (6-4) at BUENA (6-4) Div. IV, 7:30 Moorpark outlook: No doubt, the Musketeers are backing into the postseason after losing their final four games. Art Garcia (908 rushing yards) and Art Lopez (563) key the offense. QB Mark Gressman's return helps. Buena outlook: The Bulldogs won the Channel League championship, after San Marcos forfeited five wins. Still, this is a dangerous team with a balanced offense. The key: The Musketeers must open holes for Garcia and Lopez, and the defense must find away to contain at least two of Buena's three offensive weapons. LOMPOC (5-5) at THOUSAND OAKS (5-4-1) Div. IV, 7:30 Thousand Oaks outlook: The Lancers are one of the real intriguing teams in this division, having tied Westlake and beaten Newbury Park, two of the top seeds. They did so with a monster ground game featuring speedy Wes Cobos (1,573 yards) and hardnosed Joey Casillas (744). Cobos could be out with ankle sprain. Lompoc outlook: It was a down year for the Braves. They remain dangerous with QB Bryan Vargas, WR Anthony Perkins and RB Cameron Luna. The key: If the Lancers play like they have over the last four weeks, they can win easily. But can Cobos play? Getting there: 101 North to Moorpark Rd. Northwest corner of Moorpark and Avenida De Las Flores. Getting there: 101 North to Victoria Ave. North to Telegraph Rd. RIO MESA ( 3-7) at SAN LUIS OBISPO (8-2) Div. IV, 7:30 p.m. Rio Mesa outlook: The Spartans have tremendous individual talent but have failed to put it all together. The team staggers into the playoffs. San Luis Obispo outlook: The Tigers have a tremendous pass-run combination that is keyed by Kani Walker's 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground and Matt Crivello's 1,366 yards passing. The key: The Tigers finished second in the rugged Northern League and it wouldn't be a surprise to see them make it as far as the semifinals. Rio Mesa must pressure Crivello. Getting there: 101 north approximately 175 miles, exit California Bl., east to San Luis Drive, right at the stop sign, left into driveway. SANTA FE (4-6) at CHAMINADE(6-4) Div. VII, 7:30 p.m. Santa Fe outlook: The Chiefs had to forfeit their first two Del Rio League games. QB Shaun Bowen, a senior, is a scrambler who rushed for 172 yards in a game this season. RB Jimmy Salamancahas has 614 yards and 2 TDs on only 70 carries. FB Jayvon Logan, who weighs 260 pounds, has 309 yards and 13 TDs. Chaminade outlook: The Eagles' coaching staff worked well with a young, inexperienced team, leading them to the San Fernando League title. They averaged 302.4 yards despite having a QB (Lyle Everett) who threw 10 passes last year and a RB (Lee Grassini) who had 31 carries. The key: Because of the forfeits, the Chiefs are a deceiving sub-.500 team. Eagles LB John Perry is quick enough to get Bowen when he starts running out of the pocket. Getting there: 101 to Topanga Canyon north, west on Sherman Way, north on Woodlake, west on Cohasset to Chaminade Ave. HARVARD-WESTLAKE (7-3) at ARROYO (8-2) Div. VII, 7:30 p.m. Harvard-Westlake outlook: The Wolverines were 7-1 but lost their last two gamesand finished third in the San Fernando League. They have been impressive, beating Alemany, St. Bonaventure, San Marino and Nordhoff. The Wolverines' three key offensive players: RB George Witter (1 ,212 yards, 20 TDs), QB Matt Felder (1,439 yards, 12 TDs) and TE Alex Holmes (36 catches, 748 yards, 7 TDs). Arroyo outlook: The Knights, who reached the semifinals in Div. VI last year, won the Mission Valley League. Senior QB Tommy Duong, who was an all-section WR last year, has thrown for 1,018 yards and 11 TDs. RB Manuel Torres has 1,051 yards and 16 TDs. WR Sergio Perez has 37 catches for 675 yards. The key: Harvard-Westlake was rolling until the Serra loss in Week 9. Witter has been the key to the Wolverines' offensive success; he must run for more than 100 yards. Getting there: 605 freeway south to Lower Azusa, west to Cedar, north on Cedar. LA CANADA (5-5) at SANTA YNEZ (8-2) Div. X, 7:30 p.m. La Canada outlook: The Spartans, making their second straight playoff appearance, slipped into the postseason two weeks ago when they beat South Pasadena on a last-minute field goal. But they are coming off a 56-12 loss to Temple City where they managed just 7 rushing yards. La Canada looks to QB Nate Dane (85 of 191, 1,487 yards and 10 TDs) to generate the offense. WR Greg Swenson is his favorite target. Santa Ynez outlook: The Pirates finished in a three-way tie for first in the Los Padres League with Paso Robles and Morro Bay but received the No. 2 entry. They have won four of their last five. The key: La Canada RB Chet Johnson-Blasucci and Dane must be productive. Getting there: 101 North to Highway 246. Make a right and go about 7 miles. School is on the left at 2975 East Highway 246. VERBUM DEI (6-3) AT CALABASAS (7-2-1) Div. XI, 7 p.m. Verbum Dei outlook: The Eagles are the Camino Real League's No. 2 seed. Calabasas outlook: The Coyotes started strong, unbeaten in their first seven games, before stumbling to a 1-2 record in their last three. They are a passing team with QB Dallas Enoch (1,542 yards). Enoch has thrown 12 TDs but also 10 INTs. The key: Calabasas overcame a late-season slump to advance to the div isional quarterfinals last year. Can they do it again? Getting there: 101 to Parkway Calabasas, left on Calabasas, right on Valley Center, right on Valmar, left on Mulholland. OAK PARK (5-5) at CERRITOS VALLEY CHRISTIAN (7-3) Div. XI, 7:30 p.m. Oak Park outlook: In the past six weeks the Eagles have followed a win-loss-win-loss pattern. Oak Park was buried by Carpinteria in the season finale 42-0. Cerritos Valley Christian outlook: The Crusaders finished second in the Olympic League and typically are a hard-nosed group with a run-based offense. The Key: Oak Park has been inconsistent on defense and must find a way to shore up that problem quickly. Getting there: At 10818 Artesia Blvd., between Palo Verde and Studebaker. The school is accessible from the 605 or 91. DESERT (4-6) vs. PARACLETE (9-1) at Antelope Valley College Div. XII, 7:30 p.m. Desert update: The once downtrodden Scorpions (they lost 48-7 to Paraclete in 1997) earned a playoff bid under first-year coach Mike Reno behind RBs Justin Arola and Dennis Faulk. Paraclete update: The defending Division XI champion earned the division's top seeding. The Spirits won their final six games to win the Alpha League championship after moving from from the High Desert League. Junior QB Robbie Fockaert and freshman RB Curtis Brown power the Spirits. The key: The Spirits are used to beating up on HDL competition. Getting there: From the 14 freeway, take Avenue K exit and go west. AVC's stadium is on right. MONTCLAIR PREP (8-2) at ROSAMOND (7-3) Div. XII, 7:30 p.m. Montclair Prep outlook: Gary Sonkur is the region's top sophomore RB. He has 1,292 yards (9.2 avg.) and 19 TDs. As always, the Mounties like to pull linemen and have Sonkur power sweep. Rosamond update: The Roadrunners have scored 39 points or more five times. Comparison study: They lost to Paraclete by 28; Montclair Prep lost to Paraclete by 13. The key: Rosamond must contain Sonkur. If so, the Mounties are beatable because they lack other weapons. Getting there: 14 freeway to Rosamond exit, go west for a mile. L.A. BAPTIST (7-3) at MOJAVE (6-4), 7:30 p.m. Div. XII, 7:30 p.m. L.A. Baptist outlook: Scott Swenson (1,611 yards passing, 16 TDs) and Steven Long (44 catches, 10 TDs) own the air; Derek Watson (568 yards rushing) and Derek Suguitan (541 rushing) cover the ground. Mojave outlook: The host Mustangs have recent history on their side at home against the Knights, upsetting a No. 1-ranked LAB team 49-38 two years ago in Mojave and winning again this year in the desert when a late two-point conversion failed for the Knights. Koury Davis scored three TDs in that 27-26 win. The key: To survive this trip, the Knights must make better use of a strong defense that checked Mojave to 38 second-half yards in September. Getting there: North on 5 Freeway to Highway 14 junction; take Highway 14 past Lancaster to Inyo Street; right on Inyo five blocks to O Street; right on O three blocks to stadium. DOWNEY-CALVARY CHAPEL (5-5) at BORON (10-0) Div. XIII, 7:30 p.m. Calvary Chapel update: The Grizzlies placed third in the Academy League and are powered by senior RB Davion Archi Archi (är`kī): see Archite.-Wade, who's rushed for 1,475 yards and has 2,494 all-purpose yards. Boron update: The top-seeded Bobcats came up short a year ago, but have steamrolled ever since. The Key: Scoring points on Boron has been a moral victory for opponents. The Bobcats recorded five shutouts. Getting there: From Highway 58 go south on Boron Avenue and turn right on Prospect Street. FLINTRIDGE PREP (6-3) vs. ST. MARGARET'S (6-3) at Mission Viejo High, 7:30, p.m. Div. XIII, 7:30 p.m. Flintridge Prep outlook: Future Ivy Leaguer J.P. Blecksmith (6-3, 200) is playing well enough as a three-year starter to attract interest from several major-college programs, rushing for 440 yards, passing for 1,116 (a 158.46 QB rating) and adding impact as a linebacker and kick-returner. WR/DB Peter Twist (28 catches, 10 TDs) is another big contributer. St. Margaret's outlook: TB/LB Darren Kelly (717 yards rushing, 10 TDs) and Jimmy Freeman (28 catches, 12 TDs) are standouts for the Academy League-champion Tartans, who got a six-touchdown effort from QB Thett Swanson (three on runs, three on passes) against Campbell Hall this season. SM has won six consecutive. The key: Rebels can support Blecksmith's playmaking with the coaching savvy of Glen Beattie, who led FP to a section 8-man title in 1989. Getting there: South on 5 Freeway past Irvine to La Paz Road; left on La Paz to Crisanta Drive, then right to school at 25025 Crisanta. CAPTION(S): Photo PHOTO Sylmar High's David Contreras, left, and Corey Neal, who have combined for 1,978 rushing yards, have their sights set on a City Section championship. First-round City Section playoff games take place on Thursday with Southern Section games on Friday. A complete schedule in Scoreboard, Page 7. John McCoy / Daily News |
