HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: CRIST PASSES THIS TEST, AS NOTRE DAME WINS.

WESTWOOD -- There were many teams that could have used the services of Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. The 6-foot-4 Crist put forth an effort Saturday that showed why he is expected to be one of the top juniors in the area at adidas 7-on-7 passing Tournament at Drake Stadium Drake Stadium is a stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. It is primarily used for the Drake Relays, and is the home field of the Drake University Bulldogs. It opened in 1925 and currently holds 14,557 people. Crist threw for four touchdowns -- all to receiver Shane Horton -- as the Knights defeated Village Christian of Sun Valley 25-6 in the final to win the 12-team tournament.

``I think we will keep winning this year,'' said Crist, whose team has won three of the past four Southern Section Div. III titles. ``I have a lot of returning players from last year, who are going to help me out.''

This year will be different for Notre Dame, as it will be moving to the Serra League as part of the Southern Section's realignment re·a·lign

Notre Dame got its biggest challenge of the day from Serra of Gardena in the tournament semifinal.

The Knights trailed 19-14 with five minutes remaining but came back when Crist connected with Horton in the corner of the end zone to give Notre Dame an 21-19 win.

``It was real exciting to play here at UCLA,'' Crist said. ``It was also nice to play over the hill, where it is not as hot.''

 says he is impressed with Crist's play.

``He has had a great summer,'' Rooney said. ``He is going to do what ever it takes for us to win.

``He is real bright. He likes to be a bit of a coach himself, with the way he embraces his teammates.''
