HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: PALMDALE'S OFFENSE HAVING A SWINGING GOOD TIME.

Byline: HEATHER GRIPP Staff Writer

When Palmdale High pitcher Michael Tonkin takes the mound today, he can't be too worried about run support.

Palmdale's batters have become the hottest in the league, outslugging even highly productive Quartz Hill. The Falcons reached their pinnacle Wednesday when they scored 17 runs in one inning.

``We're hitting pretty good lately,'' Palmdale coach Craig Mesler said. ``I think (Wednesday) it was really windy. We hit it hard the first couple of innings INNINGS, estates. Lands gained from the sea by draining. Cunn. L. Dict. h. t.; Law of Sewers, 31. , but we were hitting it right at them. I just told the guys some would drop in, and that inning they started to.''

Palmdale sent 22 batters to the plate during the fourth inning en route to a 20-7 victory at Highland. Falcons senior Tyreace House went 3 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs in the inning. Teammate Sean Sweeney added two doubles and three RBIs.

The offense was more than enough to make senior right-hander Eddie Lopez a winner in just his second start of the season.

Another hitting spree last Friday put second-place Palmdale (15-6, 7-2) in position to claim a share of the Golden League title. The Falcons upset first-place Quartz Hill 15-13.

Palmdale has scored in double figures 11 times this season. The only team to shut out the Falcons this year was nationally ranked El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

The downside: Not everything has been so positive for Palmdale lately.

The Falcons' fielding could be reason for concern. Palmdale committed four errors in.

the seventh inning Wednesday, and that follows a six-error game Friday against Quartz Hill``We've had that problem all year,'' Mesler said. ``We're trying to correct it. We've got some young players in the field. ... I've been telling them they need to make they play, it might come back to bite us in the butt, but we've been able to get away with it so far.''

He can hit, too: Quartz Hill junior pitcher Nico Moreno hit a home run in his first at-bat of the season last Friday. The solo shot came in the seventh inning of the loss to Palmdale.

It was, albeit loosely, based on the British TV series Robin's Nest, just as Three's Company had been based on a British series, Man About the House : Highland's loss to Palmdale on Wednesday dropped the Bulldogs into a three-way tie with Littlerock and Lancaster for third-place.

Highland faces Lancaster twice next week while Littlerock plays Palmdale.
