Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  strutted their stuff for the 18th annual Rampage Band Competition.

 and Antelope valleys.

It was Valencia High's seventh year at the competition, Valencia's band teacher Bob Babko said.

``This is a good local event where the local bands get to perform for everybody, to audiences that normally wouldn't see them,'' Babko said. ``With a new band performing every 15 minutes, there's plenty to see.''

Some of the schools featured drill teams and color guards along with the live music, the decorative costumes providing a visual accompaniment to the array of band favorites.

A portion of the admission fees will be used to purchase new instruments, music and uniforms for the Hart High band, and some of the money will go to the Larry Thornton Music Scholarship Fund, named after the former Hart High band teacher who created the annual competition.
