HERTZ EXPANDS HERTZ NO. 1 CLUB GOLD

PARK RIDGE, N.J., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hertz Corporation, the world's largest car rental company, continues to expand Hertz No. 1 Club Gold, its premium, expedited rental service, with new locations opening in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia Pacific. It also plans to selectively pursue Gold memberships in Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, where outbound business travelers represent a significant new market.
By April 1994 Hertz will operate approximately 500 Gold locations worldwide. The expansion already underway includes 12 new locations in New Zealand, 13 additional Canadian locations bringing the total in Canada to 28, and 42 locations in the U.S., which will bring the U.S. total to over 220 cities served by Gold.
In Europe, Hertz is adding over 160 Gold locations primarily in the downtown area. In 1993, Hertz opened Gold locations at virtually all the major European airports. Hertz' total investment in Gold, since its launch in 1989, is estimated to reach $130 million in 1994.
"Hertz' continued expansion of Gold worldwide assets to our commitment to being the global car rental leader in speed of service," said Hertz Executive Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Brian J. Kennedy. "Our Gold service set a new standard for the industry, which our competition has only now begun to imitate. With our lead both in time and investment, we intend to stay out front."
Gold service enables Gold members to get their rental car -- which is ready and waiting with the trunk open for the luggage and keys in the ignition -- and go without having to sign a rental agreement. All they need do is show their license to the attendant at the gate as they drive out of the lot.
Hertz has a fleet of 420,000 cars at more than 5,000 locations in 130 countries.
