HERTZ DONATES USED HAND CONTROLS TO CANADIAN PARAPLEGIC ASSOCIATION
PARK RIDGE, N.J., Oct. 1 /CNW/ - The Hertz Corporation has donated over 50 sets of used hand controls to the Canadian Paraplegic Association - National Office (CPA) in Toronto. Hertz is now utilizing a universal hand control device that fits many vehicles and allows disabled travelers a greater choice when renting Hertz cars. The controls previously used were often model specific.
"We are pleased to make this donation to the Canadian Paraplegic Association," said Robert J. Bailey, Hertz' senior vice president, quality assurance and administration.
He continued: "Within the car-rental industry, Hertz has been a leader in responding to the needs of disabled renters. Hand control- equipped cars are available at all Hertz corporate locations in the United States and Canada. Importantly, there is no additional charge for this equipment. Hertz remains one of the few car-rental companies to make hand controls available - something we've been doing for two decades."
The Canadian Paraplegic Association, established in 1945, is a service organization that assists disabled people in their social and economic integration. A component of CPA is its International Committee, which collects wheelchairs, hand controls and other devices for the disabled. CPA will deliver the equipment to underdeveloped countries where such equipment is difficult or impossible to obtain. Howard Barrie, chairman of CPA's International Affairs Committee and incoming CPA president, is coordinating the donation and delivery of the Hertz used hand controls.
Hertz, the world's largest car-rental company, operates over 5,000 locations in more than 120 countries, with approximately 60 corporate locations in Canada.
