``Everything is going really good for the Marlboro Team Penske car,'' said Hornish, winner of this year's Indianapolis 500. ``Our run was pretty good, even though we slowed down from where we thought we would be.''

Hornish was on the pole for the Texas Motor Speedway race in 2001. But he won that pole because he was leading in points and qualifying was cancelled due to rain.

Hornish's Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves will start third after turning a qualifying lap at 213.182 mph. The Team Penske drivers have combined to win five of the six poles this year.

``We've spent most of our time working on our qualifying setup,'' said Kanaan, driver of the No. 11 entry for Andretti Green. ``Team 7-Eleven always has good race cars here. If you look back at my record, it's pretty good apart from 2003 when Helio took us out.''

The two other Andretti Green drivers, Dario Franchitti and Marco Andretti, will start in the top 10. Franchitti will start eighth and Andretti will start ninth.

Castroneves leads the IRL points standings with 182. Scott Dixon, who qualified fourth for the Texas race, is second in points with 170. Hornish is third at 162.

Herta is ninth in points with 106 and trails Danica Patrick and Kosuke Matsuura, tied for seventh, by one point.
