HERE COMES THE BRIDAL CD.

Byline: - Fred Shuster

June is traditionally the month to be merry - and get married.

In the spirit of union comes a new CD compilation that collects the most popular wedding songs of all time.

You already know some of these tunes - ``Promises Ain't Enough'' by Hall & Oates, ``A Whole New World (Aladdin's Theme)'' by Peabo Bryson with Regina Belle, ``Endless Love'' by Diana Ross & Lionel Richie, ``I Pledge My Love'' by Peaches & Herb, and ``Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me'' by Gladys Knight & the Pips.

Bookending the 15-track disc, titled ``The Wedding Album'' (Columbia), are the two most familiar pieces of traditional wedding music: the ``Bridal Chorus'' from Richard Wagner's ``Lohengrin'' and the ``Wedding March'' from Felix Mendelssohn's ``A Midsummer Night's Dream,'' Op. 61.

The making of the album was a group effort, said Dave Santaniello, vice president of special marketing at Columbia Records in New York.

The initial list of songs was compiled by Santaniello's assistant, Lauri Pearson, who came up with the titles from memory after having spent several years in radio.

``She knew the songs from the number of on-air requests they received,'' Santaniello said.

``The Wedding Album'' is being marketed with Modern Bride magazine, the nation's top wedding mag. In fact, 350,000 copies of the August/September issue will contain a sampler featuring spoken word from Pearson and samples of romantic songs from some of Columbia's new artists, including Chantal Kreviazuk and Bic Runga.

``Choosing the music you'll hear at your wedding and your reception is surely one of the most personal wedding-planning decisions of all,'' said Stacy Morrison, editor of Modern Bride.

But where's Celine Dion's ``My Heart Will Go On,'' the international smash that just may be this summer's most popular wedding song?

Santaniello said ``The Wedding Album'' was being created six months ago, just as the blockbuster ``Titanic'' was taking off, so it was too soon to include Dion's song.

``We'd like to do this on a yearly basis,'' Santaniello said, adding that next year's package would probably include the ``Titanic'' love theme.
