IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS? No

WHY DID YOU START THIS BUSINESS? I discovered a way to produce a unique kind of product at affordable prices. This opportunity, coupled with the suitability of an online store, was too great to pass up.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA? I came up with the idea of photo engraving after seeing two street vendors next to each other. The first was engraving jewelry with text, the second selling buttons with photos inside. I thought it would be great if the metal engraving and photo printing could be merged into one product.

HOW LONG WAS IT FROM CONCEPT TO OPENING? Three months.

WHAT DID YOU DO DURING THAT TIME? Research the appropriate production equipment and process, establish supplier relationships and create a complete online storefront A store on the Internet that offers items for sale and is capable of handling the financial transaction online. See cybermall and digital money. .

WHAT WERE YOUR STARTUP COSTS AND HOW DID YOU FINANCE THE BUSINESS? It was roughly $5,000 for the manufacturing equipment and an inventory of products. I used my savings.

WHO DID YOU RELY ON FOR ADVICE? I spoke to industry experts about the potential for personalizing jewelry with image printing. Other than that, I used my own experience as a management consultant to create the online store.

WHAT HADN'T YOU CONSIDERED BEFORE OPENING? The difficulty of successfully describing the market and selling personalized jewelry. I underestimated the hesitation potential customers feel when they're unable to see the final product before buying it.

WHAT IS YOUR EXPECTED REVENUE THIS YEAR? $45,000

WHAT GOALS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE COMPANY? To cultivate cul·ti·vate
