HEMINGWAY WILL PLAY AT COLLEGE'S CONCERT.

Renowned composer and percussionist Gerry Hemingway Gerry Hemingway (b. New Haven, Connecticut, 1955) is an American jazz composer and percussionist.

The performance will feature the premiere of a new work called ``Sideband sideband, any frequency component of a modulated carrier wave other than the frequency of the carrier wave itself, i.e., any frequency added to the carrier as a result of modulation; sidebands carry the actual information while the carrier contributes none at all. : Concerto for Three Improvisers and Orchestra.'' To present the new piece, Hemingway will be joined by faculty soloists and the CalArts New Millennium Orchestra conducted by faculty member Marc Lowenstein.

Additionally, the program will include ``Architectures (for Iannis Xenakis Iannis Xenakis (Γιάννης Ξενάκης) (May 29 1922 - February 4 2001) was a Greek composer and one of the most important modernist composers of the 20th century. ),'' a work for 12 improvisers; ``The Visiting Tank,'' for string quartet and sampler; and ``Tub,'' a piece for five snare drums that will be performed by distinguished guest artist William Sinant and the CalArts Percussion Ensemble. Hemingway will also play several solo works for acoustic percussion and MIDI-triggered sampler.

Hemingway has been at the forefront of creative improvised music for more than two decades. His work as a composer, soloist and ensemble performer has been showcased on more than 100 recordings.

Since the late 1970s, Hemingway has appeared as a member of groups such as BassDrumBone, the Anthony Braxton Quartet, the Reggie Workman Ensemble and Anthony Davis' Episteme Ensemble. He has also led his own groups, notably the Gerry Hemingway Quintet and the Gerry Hemingway Quartet. He regularly plays as part of different duos and trios with the likes of saxophonist John Butcher, synthesizer synthesizer

Hemingway's most recent recordings include the album ``Songs,'' BassDrumBone's ``March of Dimes'' and WHO Trio's ``Open Songs,'' all released in 2002. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, he has also won awards from the National Endowment of the Arts and the New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 Foundation for the Arts.
