Many local businesses, organizations and public and private agencies are raising money for the Katrina relief effort. Here is a partial list of ways you can help:

Financial donations

Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals of Portland and Pet Adoption Pet adoption usually refers to the process of taking guardianship of and responsibility for a pet that a previous owner has abandoned or otherwise abdicated responsibility for.  Network of Lebanon are raising money to send a truck and stock trailer to the Gulf states to pick up stranded pets. Animals will be dropped off at accredited accredited

recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria.

Contact Renate Hartland, Katrina Hurricane Relief, 1658 Marten marten, name for carnivorous, largely arboreal mammals (genus Martes) of the weasel family, widely distributed in North America, Europe, and central Asia. Martens are larger, heavier-bodied animals than weasels, with thick fur and bushy tails.  Ave. S.W., Albany, OR 97321.

Springfield and Thurston high schools will collect donations during halftime of tonight's football game. The Springfield Millers will collect donations in hard hats, and the Thurston Colts will take contributions in cowboy hats.

The employees of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz The Confederated Tribes of Siletz in the United States is a federally recognized confederation of 27 Native American tribal bands that once inhabited a range from northern California to southwest Washington.  Indians and tribal members are encouraged to donate to a hurricane fund. All donations will be matched by the tribe and sent to the American Red Cross American Red Cross: see Red Cross. . Benefit concerts and sales

Catholic Community Services of Lane County and Washburne Neighbors will host a benefit sale Sept. 16-17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Community Service Center, 1025 G St. in Springfield. All proceeds go to the relief effort. To donate items or arrange for pick up, please contact Mary Jo Moloney at 746-1745 or Faye Brabham at 746-8760. Always Birds First Rescue will have a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24 to raise money to save birds affected by the disaster. Call Sally Gilliam at 461-5851 to arrange pickup. The location of the sale has not been determined.

A concert will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Port Events Center, 1954 Union St., North Bend North Bend is the name of several places in the United States of America:

Music and poetry will be on the menu as Tsunami Books hosts a hurricane benefit on Sept. 16. `Beatnik jazz' artist Ike Eichenberg, Eugene's own troubadour troubadour

One of a class of lyric poets and poet-musicians, often of knightly rank, that flourished from the 11th through the 13th century, chiefly in Provence and other regions of southern France, northern Spain, and northern Italy.
 Brian Cutean and poet margareta waterman will perform at 5:30 p.m., 2585 Willamette St. Admission is free, and all donations will benefit Katrina relief. Patrons also are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner.

Diablo's and the Downtown Lounge, 959 Pearl St., will host a benefit party in conjunction with International Talk Like a Pirate Day on Sept. 19. The event, featuring live music begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free, and donations will be collected at the door.

I'Chele and the Circle of Light and a host of other performers will team up for a benefit reggae concert on Sept. 21 at Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. Eighth Ave. Admission to the 8 p.m. show is free, but donations will be collected for the relief effort.

In-kind donations

The Oregon National Guard and the state Department of Education are asking for people to fill new backpacks with pens, papers, books and other school supplies for students and teachers in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Drop off the items at any Oregon National Guard Armory. Go to: www.ode.state.or.us/GO/Katrina for a list of the most needed items.

McKenzie Mist in Springfield is seeking donations of fuel in order to truck 50,000 pounds of goods to the stricken area. Gas cards may be delivered to the business at 240 Main St. by today. For information, call Repha at 988-0404.

Crossfire A multi-GPU interface from ATI for connecting two ATI display adapters together for faster graphics rendering on one monitor. CrossFire machines require PCI Express slots, a CrossFire-enabled motherboard and, depending on which models are used, either a pair of ATI Radeon adapters or one  World Outreach Ministries in Springfield is collecting food, medicine and household goods to be trucked to Louisiana. McGrath's Fish House is donating $1 for every dessert sold to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Dance Party at Cuthbert will donate 50 percent of ticket receipts from Jazz at Lincoln Center's Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra Dance Party to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Cuthbert Amphitheater.

Arby's Restaurants will donate 10 percent of all sales profits Monday through Wednesday, 4 p.m. until closing.
