HELIAN HEALTH GROUP TO DEVELOP RECOVERY INN OF HANFORD, CALIF.
MONTEREY, Calif., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Helian Health Group Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: HHGR) announced today that it will develop the Recovery Inn (TM) of Hanford, Calif. Recovery Inn (TM) of Hanford will be a "mini" general acute care hospital serving elective surgical and medical patients in a caring environment. It will feature inpatient and outpatient surgery using the most advanced equipment and a higher nurse to patient ratio than a traditional hospital. This intimate facility will offer all the amenities of a small, luxury hotel -- at a savings of 25-35 percent compared with a traditional hospital. The Recovery Inn of Hanford will be owned by Helian Health Group Inc. (35 percent) and a limited partnership of three single-specialty physician groups (45 percent). In the future a limited partnership offering of up to 20 percent ownership will be made. The Recovery Inn of Hanford is expected to begin caring for patients by winter 1994 or spring 1995. It is expected to be 17,000 square feet, will have four operating rooms, an endoscopic special procedures room, an eight bed post-anesthesia care unit, 12 private patient suites, an on-site laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy and kitchen facilities. Andrew W. Miller, Helian vice president of operations and acquisitions, said, "Helian and its physician partners are very pleased to bring the Recovery Inn concept to the southern San Joaquin Valley of California." Helian Health Group Inc. is a progressive medical services company. Helian is dedicated to solving the major health problem that confronts the United States today -- namely, lowering the high cost of medical services. To this end, Helian specializes in two modern methods of providing health care: Surgery Operations: Helian operates four surgical facilities and is in the process of purchasing or developing three more. Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) One of the nation's leading ASCs (Surgecenter of Palo Alto) has been operated by Helian for several years. Helian opened a second ASC in Northridge, late last year, has an agreement in principle to buy 50 percent of a third ASC in Lodi and is developing yet another ASC in Salinas. Recovery Inns(SM) Helian is actively introducing new-concept surgical hospitals to the medical community. The first -- the Recovery Inn of Los Gatos -- opened June 1, 1992. The second -- the Recovery Inn of Menlo Park -- opened in December 1992. Additionally, Helian has entered into agreements to develop two more Recovery Inns (Lodi and Hanford). Recovery Inns enable patients to undergo surgery and to recuperate in a hotel-like setting -- at a lower cost to the payor than traditional hospitals. Occupational Health Care: Helian is the dominant provider of occupational health care in Tucson, Ariz.; Fresno, Calif.; and Atlanta, Ga. The company has more than 10,000 employer clients and attends to more than 240,000 patient visits per year. -0- 3/29/93 /CONTACT: J.
