 LANDOVER, Md., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Hechinger Company (NASDAQ-NMS: HECHA and HECHB) today reported monthly sales for September of $209.0 million, which represents a 14 percent increase from September 1992 sales of $183.5 million. Comparable store sales were up 11 percent for the month.
 Comparable store sales for September 1993 were up 12 percent for the Hechinger Stores division and up 10 percent for the Home Quarters Warehouse division.
 During the month of September, the Home Quarters Warehouse division opened a new store in Jackson, Miss. Six Home Quarters Warehouse stores are scheduled to open during the month of October: Albany, N.Y.; North Little Rock, Ark.; and four stores in the Detroit market in Roseville, Madison Heights, Southgate and Livonia, Mich. In addition, one Home Quarters Warehouse store will open in Clarksville, Ind., a suburb of the Louisville, Ky., market, early in the fourth quarter.
 During the month of September, the Hechinger Stores division completed the conversion of two Home Project Centers in Delaware and opened a new Home Project Center in Columbia, Md. In the fourth quarter, one new Home Project Center and two converted Home Project Centers will open.
