HEAVY D APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF UPTOWN RECORDSUNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Renowned artist and producer Heavy D has been appointed President of Uptown Records, it was announced today by Doug Morris, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, MCA Music Entertainment Group.

Uptown Records will be supported in marketing, sales, and promotion by Universal Records.
As an A&R executive with Uptown, Heavy D has signed such artists as Platinum-selling Soul For Real and newcomer Monifah.

Heavy D is a prolific recording artist, producer, and entertainer who has sold over four million albums and revolutionized the hip hop genre. Heavy D and the Boyz have released a series of successful, critically-acclaimed recordings including the Platinum-selling albums "Big Tyme" (which went to No. 1 on Billboard's R&B chart), "Peaceful Journey," and "Nuttin'But Love" and the Gold album "Blue Funk." Heavy D launched his rap career at the age of 17 with the landmark album "Livin' Large," which garnered a huge following and drew the attention of critics across the nation.
Heavy D has also collaborated on recording projects with such artists as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Naughty By Nature Naughty by Nature is a Grammy Award Winning American Hip hop group that at the time of its formation in 1991 consisted of Treach, Vin Rock, and the DJ Kay Gee.
