HEAVENLY MASCOT ROSIE'S AN ANGEL IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE FOR HOSPITAL.Byline: Daily News When artist Niris created an angel named ``Rosie'' for Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital's Guilded Rose Thrift Shop thrift shop n. A shop that sells used articles, especially clothing, as to benefit a charitable organization. , she was so moved by the shop's mission to raise needed funds for the hospital's emergency room, she turned to her creation for an inspired idea to unite the community in support of the hospital. ``Lives need to be saved this very moment,'' Niris stated in a moving letter to thrift shop co-managers Helen Barlow bar·low n. What if `Rosie' hooked up with the hospital, cities and press and asked every man, woman and child to donate $1? Perhaps we can even get businesses to match the pledge or to pledge Angel donations.'' ``Without an expanded emergency room, I don't want to think about what would happen,'' Niris continued. ``I'm so committed to this campaign because I, too, have been in the emergency room and it's a matter of life and death
"Matter of Life and Death" was the second episode of the first series of . for everyone.'' Niris initially created Rosie, an angel made from items in nature and in the thrift shop, as part of the Newhall Art Walk, a public art project shown in selected locations in Downtown Newhall as part of an effort to provide economic development in Old Town Newhall. Her face exudes a pinkish hue with sparkling pearl-lit eyes. Rosie will be on display at the thrift shop throughout the month. The shop, at 24331 San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the , welcomes donations such as clothing, small pieces of furniture, books and other items from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Thrift shop co-manager Waddell said she was touched and impressed with Niris's idea to have everyone pledge a dollar. ``If someone passes up buying a pack of gum and donates that dollar to the `Rosie' campaign, every dollar would help,'' she said.
