HEAT BRINGS INSTANT SUMMER WEEKEND TEMPERATURES EXPECTED TO HIT 100 DEGREES.

Byline: Daily News

Temperatures today and Sunday could top 100 degrees, creating hazardous conditions for senior citizens, children and pets, National Weather Service forecasters said Friday.

A high-pressure system is expected to result in temperatures that are about 10 degrees above normal, they said.

``We have not had these temperatures since last July,'' said Bonnie bon·ny also bon·nie

Officials advised people to stay out of direct sunlight, wear light-colored clothes, drink two to three quarts of water daily and avoid high-protein foods, which raise the body temperature.

``What we're most greatly concerned about are the issues people often forget about - overextending themselves in the heat, leaving elderly people, children or pets unattended in the car, things like that,'' Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

State power regulators said there could be tight supplies in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  this summer, but two local utilities said they have enough electricity for the weekend.

``We have ample supplies of power and we hope that Angelenos will continue to conserve electricity,'' said Lucia Alvelais of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is the largest municipal utility in the United States, serving 3.9 million residents in 2006.
