HEARN, COLE LAUDED.

WASHINGTON - The Senate has given final approval to naming two Southland post offices in memory of legendary Lakers announcer Chick Hearn and entertainer Nat ``King'' Cole.

After President George W. Bush's expected approval, the facility at 5805 White Oak Ave. in Encino will be named the Francis Dayle ``Chick'' Hearn Post Office.

Measures to honor Hearn, who lived in Encino for more than 20 years, were sponsored in the Senate by California Democrats Barbara Boxer Barbara Levy Boxer (born November 11, 1940) is an American politician and the current junior U.S. Senator from the State of California.

A member of the Democratic Party, Boxer was first elected to the U.S.
 and Dianne Feinstein Dianne Goldman Berman Feinstein (born June 22, 1933) is the senior U.S. Senator from California, having held office as a senator since 1992. She is a member of the Democratic Party.  and in the House by Rep. Brad Sherman Bradley J. "Brad" Sherman (born October 24 1954) is an American politician. He has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing California's At-large congressional district. , D-Sherman Oaks.

Hearn, who called 3,362 Lakers games on TV and radio from 1965 to 2001, died Aug. 5 at Northridge Hospital Medical Center Northridge Hospital Medical Center is a hospital in the Northridge town of Los Angeles, California, USA. It is currently operated by Catholic Healthcare West. History
The hospital was founded in 1955 by Dr.
 after falling at his home. He was 85.

Cole's name will grace the post office at 265 S. Western Ave. in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

Born in Alabama and reared in Chicago, Cole and his family in 1948 were the first African-Americans to integrate Los Angeles' Hancock Park neighborhood. In 1956, the singer became the first African-American to host a network TV program when ``The Nat 'King' Cole Show'' was first broadcast by NBC NBC
 in full National Broadcasting Co.

Major U.S. commercial broadcasting company. It was formed in 1926 by RCA Corp., General Electric Co. (GE), and Westinghouse and was the first U.S. company to operate a broadcast network.
 from Burbank.

The show lasted only a year because of difficulty in finding commercial sponsorship. Cole died in 1965.

The honor for Cole was sponsored by Boxer and Feinstein in the Senate and by Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Los Angeles, in the House.
