but the sounds of electric guitars, bass, drums and cymbals cymbals (sĭm`bəlz), percussion instruments of ancient Asian origin. They consist of a pair of slightly concave metal plates which produce a vibrant sound of indeterminate pitch.  as well, blending influences from classic R&B to pop, hip-hop and gospel.

The group has opened for and played concerts with Jessica Simpson, Howie Day Howie Kern Day (born January 15, 1981 in Bangor, Maine) is an American singer-songwriter. Beginning his career as a solo artist in the late 1990s, Day became known for his extensive touring[1] , Blondie, 98 Degrees, Smokey Robinson and The Temptations, Gladys Knight Gladys Maria Knight (born May 28, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American R&B/soul singer, actress and author. She is best known for the hits she recorded during the 1960s and 1970s, for both the Motown and Buddah Records labels, with her group Gladys Knight & the Pips, the most  and KC and the Sunshine Band.

``Some of our touring schedule includes an outreach to students, from kindergarten kindergarten [Ger.,=garden of children], system of preschool education. Friedrich Froebel designed (1837) the kindergarten to provide an educational situation less formal than that of the elementary school but one in which children's creative play instincts would be  to college age,'' says band member Jon J. Ryan. ``We customize our shows to fit the age group and grade level, and mix high energy music with the educational aspects of what we do.''

The biggest challenge is overcoming people's perception that an a cappella group sings only barbershop or doo-wop harmony, said member Dave Guist.

``What we do is 100 percent contemporary, using those same harmonies but in a very different way. It's very cool to us that the fans at our shows range from teenagers who come for the hip-hop to adults who love the doo-wop,'' Guist said.

The Feb. 25 concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Playhouse, 38334 10th St. E. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for senior citizens, military, student and youth 12 and under. Students with ID are admitted for half-price 30 minutes before show time.

For tickets, call the Playhouse box office at (661) 267-5685.
