A medical license revocation hearing is scheduled in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  on Tuesday for former Glendale Adventist Medical Center Glendale Adventist Medical Center is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale, California. It was founded in 1905. , who officials say confessed to killing 40 to 50 patients over an eight-year period.

Relatives of patients at the medical center continued to worry about the case Sunday, while Glendale Adventist was holding its Foundations Gala 1998 fund-raiser, which officials hope will generate about $280,000 for the hospital's Maternity & Outpatient Surgery Center.

Although some people said they were considering transferring relatives from the hospital, officials denied any patient had been removed after officials released details of the Saldivar case.

``Everything is the same - nothing has changed,'' said hospital spokeswoman Alicia Gonzalez.

Gonzalez also said the recent revelations concerning Saldivar did not hurt the fund-raising event at the Red Lion hotel.

At the hospital, Paul Tucker, whose mother is being treated for lung cancer lung cancer, cancer that originates in the tissues of the lungs. ``In January, it was just the one guy coming in,'' said Tucker, whose mother is in the cancer ward. ``But now it's like they are checking up on each other.''

Gonzalez could not be reached later in the evening to confirm that.

As a precautionary measure, Tucker said members of his family have taken to sleeping overnight in the hospital room. But the Merino Merino

Valley resident said he doubted his mother was in danger because she has not left a ``do not resuscitate'' instruction.

Security at the medical center also was tightened.

Uniformed guards were posted at the main entrance, visitors were issued identification stickers and relatives of patients said the usually unlocked side doors were locked, preventing entrance without an electronic access card.

A Glendale resident, who declined to give her full name, went to the medical center Sunday with the intention of moving her 74-year-old mother from the hospital to a nursing home.

``I just can't leave her there. . . . I'm really scared,'' said the 35-year-old woman. She said her mother suffers from chronic kidney failure Chronic Kidney Failure Definition

, Glendale police continued to investigate Saldivar's role in what could be the largest murder case in Glendale's history, Sgt. Rick Young said.

Young defended the department for releasing Saldivar after detaining him at the Glendale jail over a 48-hour period March 11-13. He said detectives had insufficient evidence insufficient evidence n. a finding (decision) by a trial judge or an appeals court that the prosecution in a criminal case or a plaintiff in a lawsuit has not proved the case because the attorney did not present enough convincing evidence.  to charge him with murder or anything else.

Already angered over the state Respiratory Care Board's release of the alleged confession Friday, the sergeant declined to say whether Saldivar is under surveillance.

``We don't want him to know that. If we are not following him, then he will know of course, and he will take other action,'' Young said. ``The investigation has been hampered enough. We do not want him knowing what our plans are in this case.''

In those documents, Saldivar described himself as an ``angel of death,'' and told Glendale police March 11 that he killed 40 to 50 patients during eight years, ending in August 1997.

No criminal charges have been filed against Saldivar, although the Los Angeles County District Attorney is investigating and Saldivar's state license was temporarily suspended.

By state and federal law, a confession alone isn't sufficient to bring a case.

Saldivar has not come out of seclusion seclusion Forensic psychiatry A strategy for managing disturbed and violent Pts in psychiatric units, which consists of supervised confinement of a Pt to a room–ie, involuntary isolation, to protect others from harm  since he was linked to the case publicly.

His mother and a friend, Evlia Ponce, remained inside the family's white, one-story home on Valaho Drive in Tujunga.

Though Saldivar's mother peeked through the pink blinds from time to time, she declined to talk to newspaper and television reporters. Ponce said the woman, whose name she refused to give out, was not feeling well.

Yesterday, Eddie Saldivar said his brother's comments have been misconstrued and that he is innocent.
