HEALTHY HOMES GETS TWO GRANTS.

The Antelope Valley
 Hospital's Healthy Homes program has received more than $400,000 in two grants.

A $50,000 grant came from the Ahmanson Foundation to cover infrastructure costs, while the California Community Foundation The California Community Foundation, located in Los Angeles, California serves all of Los Angeles County and is the United States' second-oldest community foundation. It has assets of over $1 billion and makes grants for several different charitable purposes.  has awarded a $357,600, three-year grant to hire an additional nurse and support existing staff.

,'' director Lea Butterfield said. ``We need skilled professionals and other resources to make a difference and these grants are helping us acquire exactly what we need.''

Nurses working on behalf of Healthy Homes visit pregnant women and mothers of newborns in their homes to educate them on important prenatal issues like nutritious eating, making healthy personal choices, obtaining regular prenatal medical care, complying with the advice of medical professionals, and avoiding alcohol, tobacco and drugs.

Women served by Healthy Homes are qualified as ``at risk'' because of medical reasons, poor pregnancy or birth outcomes in the past, or because they are either teenagers or in a high- risk ethnic group.

The Ahmanson Foundation is a private, California-based foundation founded by Howard F. Ahmanson and his wife Dorothy. It funds a range of human services projects including cultural programs, health care services, and other initiatives that benefit low-income people.

The California Community Foundation, founded in 1915, makes grants to nonprofit organizations Nonprofit Organization
