 HEALTHTRUST, INC. ANNOUNCES THIRD QUARTER AND NINE-MONTH RESULTS
 NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthTrust, Inc. - The Hospital Company (NYSE: HTI) today reported that net income for the third quarter of 1992 before extraordinary charges relating to the early retirement of debt was $27.7 million or $.33 per share compared with a loss of $10.9 million or $.18 per share for the third quarter a year ago. The 1991 third quarter results include a non-recurring after tax gain of $6.6 million or $.11 per share relating to a $10.7 million one-time favorable Medicare settlement.
 On a pro forma basis, assuming that the company's recently completed recapitalization plan and hospital divestitures had occurred Sept. 1, 1990, net income increased to $29.3 million or $.35 per share for the third quarter of 1992, from $21.0 million or $.25 per share for the third quarter of 1991.
 On a same hospitals basis, net operating revenue increased 10.0 percent during the third quarter compared with the same period of the prior year when the one-time Medicare settlement is excluded.
 For the nine-month period ended May 31, 1992, net income before extraordinary charges was $71.5 million or $.63 per share compared with a loss of $36.0 million or $.60 per share for the comparable period in 1991. The 1991 results include the non-recurring gain of $.11 per share relating to the Medicare settlement.
 Pro forma nine-month results for 1992 show net income of $86.9 million or $1.04 per share compared with $54.5 million or $.66 per share for the same nine-month period in 1991. The pro forma three-month and nine-month results for 1992 exclude the extraordinary charge and for 1991 exclude the one-time Medicare settlement recorded during May 1991 or $.08 per share on a pro forma basis.
 For the third quarter, net operating revenue was $567.1 million, up from $536.3 million for the corresponding period a year ago. Nine-month net revenue was $1.7 billion, compared with $1.5 billion for the nine months in the prior year.
 During the third quarter of 1992, HealthTrust completed an offering of $500 million of 10 3/4 percent Subordinated Notes due 2002. Due to the prepayment of bank debt with the proceeds of the note offering, the company recorded an extraordinary charge of $(6.4) million or $(.07) per share.
 HealthTrust, Inc. is one of the largest hospital management companies in the United States, operating 82 acute care hospitals with approximately 11,300 licensed beds.
