HEALTHSYSTEM MINNESOTA FORMED THROUGH PARK NICOLLET, METHODIST AFFILIATION

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Methodist Hospital and Park Nicollet Medical Center officially finalized their 18-month affiliation process with the first meeting of the board for their new parent company, HealthSystem Minnesota.
HealthSystem Minnesota presidents Robert L. Galloway and James L. Reinertsen, M.D., see this affiliation as an important step in the integration of inpatient and outpatient services into a coordinated system of care, an essential step in responding to the changing health care industry.
"Close cooperation between physicians and hospitals will improve the quality and cost effectiveness of health care, and ensure good stewardship of our communities' resources," explained Reinertsen.
"Through this new organization, we will be able to integrate long- range planning, facility plans and capital expenditures," said Galloway. "We will also be able to enhance our undertaking of new and innovative services and programs to best serve the interests of our patients and the community."
HealthSystem Minnesota will be governed by a 22-member board whose members include both Park Nicollet and independent physicians, as well as community representatives. In sharing the president's office, Galloway also serves as chief administrative officer and Reinertsen as chief quality officer for the parent company.
Under HealthSystem Minnesota, Park Nicollet Medical Center and Methodist Hospital will continue separate day-to-day operations. The Methodist Hospital Foundation and HSM Associates (formerly Methodist HealthCare Associates) will also function separately.
Park Nicollet Medical Center is one of the largest multispecialty group practices in the United States. More than 360 physicians and some 2,000 other health care professionals provide care in 45 specialties and subspecialties at 19 metropolitan locations.
Methodist Hospital, a 426-bed acute care facility, employs 2,744 people. Methodist, together with an 800-member physician staff, is recognized as an area leader in cancer care, neurology/rehabilitation medicine and cardiovascular services, to name a few.
