BLOOMINGDALE, Ill., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Bloomingdale village officials and other leaders in Chicago's health care community watched today as ground was broken on a 20,000-square-foot primary care health center located at 30 Stratford Drive, adjacent to the Stratford Square Mall, according to HealthSpring. Scheduled to open in the spring of this year, the health center will be developed and managed by HealthSpring Medical Group. HealthSpring Medical Group is now forming relationships with managed care organizations in Chicago that will offer their members access to the services provided in the health center. The company is a division of HealthSpring, Inc., a national managed care organization, formerly known as American Health Care Groups, Inc., that develops and manages physician group practices in selected local markets.
James G. Carlson, president and chief executive officer, HealthSpring, Inc., said: "We break ground today with the goal of setting a new benchmark for how health care services should be delivered to patients. At HealthSpring Medical Group, highly skilled, board- certified physicians and responsive staff will put the patient's interest first and be accountable for health care costs. HealthSpring will provide convenient `one-stop shopping' for its patients in this new facility with primary care physicians in pediatrics, internal medicine, family practice and obstetrics and gynecology. The health center is designed to include pharmacy, radiology, mammography, lab and patient education services. In addition, the health center will use a state-of- the-art information system to measure and report on optimal health care treatments, enhancing the ability of physicians to provide superior service to their patients."
HealthSpring's primary care health center in Bloomingdale is the first of multiple sites that will be opened in the Chicago area. The company is recruiting primary care physicians in pediatrics, internal medicine, family practice and obstetrics and gynecology and will establish referral relationships with sub-specialists and other health care providers in the communities in which it operates. The company's health centers serve health plans and their members principally through prepaid contracts.
