HEALTH CLINIC TO OFFER SERVICES FOR WOMEN.

Free cancer screenings for women are among the services that will be highlighted through October and November at the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center in observance of Women's Health Month.

The center is cooperating with the California Family Health Council and the American Cancer Society in providing free pap tests and breast exams. Mammograms will be arranged on a sliding fee scale, said nurse practitioner Leslie de la Flor, office manager at the private nonprofit clinic.

Women's Health Month is designed to call attention to breast and cervical cancers. Aside from screenings, the clinic will offer instructional material for monthly breast self-exams, de la Flor said.

``The purpose of this promotion is to alert women to address their special medical needs,'' she said. ``I think historically women have taken care of the whole family, but they don't take care of themselves.''

The Dixon health center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The center is open to anyone and draws patients from the Santa Clarita, San Fernando and Antelope valleys, de la Flor said. Walk-ins are accepted, but appointments are preferred and can be made by calling 257-4008.
