Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County residents can now search two years of apartment and condominium inspection results on an Internet site to find health and safety ratings on individual buildings.

``I think any time we can make reports more accessible to the public it's a good thing,'' Health Department spokesman John Wallace John Wallace may refer to:

said. He added that hard copies of the inspections had been available at regional offices, but residents complained they were too cumbersome to access.

A random Daily News search of North Hollywood for 2003 turned up 1,572 inspection reports, including one apartment complex with the lowest score - 67 - for a severe cockroach cockroach or roach, name applied to approximately 3,500 species of flat-bodied, oval insects forming the order Blattodea. Cockroaches have long antennae, long legs adapted to running, and a flat extension of the upper body wall that conceals the  infestation infestation /in·fes·ta·tion/ (-fes-ta´shun) parasitic attack or subsistence on the skin and/or its appendages, as by insects, mites, or ticks; sometimes used to denote parasitic invasion of the organs and tissues, as by helminths. .

The score is based on a scale of 1-100, with any problem leading to a one-point deduction in the score. The score is based on an inspection of the common areas and whatever units individuals allow inspectors into after they knock on Noun 1. knock on - (rugby) knocking the ball forward while trying to catch it (a foul)

The phone number for the district office responsible for the inspection is noted so people can call if they have any questions. Also, a chart is available to provide inspection dates, violation categories, the severity of each violation and the inspection score.

The county began posting the information after the Board of Supervisors asked for a report last month on how to fix deplorable conditions in thousands of rundown apartments and condos in the county.

Supervisors were pressured by news reports that found 13 percent of the county's 66,658 apartment and condominium complexes contained health or safety hazards.

The health department also installed an online complaint form for the public to request an inspection. People can also contact the environmental health hotline at 888-700-9955. Officials are still looking into whether letter grades similar to ones at restaurants could be posted at apartment complexes and condominiums.

In a related matter, health department Director Dr. Thomas Garthwaite wrote in a memo released Tuesday that the County Counsel's Office has determined the county could not post letter grades at community health clinics, nursing homes and other health facilities.

But the department plans to post links on its Web site to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Noun 1. Department of Health and Human Services - the United States federal department that administers all federal programs dealing with health and welfare; created in 1979

``Community clinics are already required to post inspection reports showing the list of deficiencies and the plan of correction in a conspicuous location accessible to the public,'' Garthwaite wrote. ``Similarly, citations must be posted in nursing homes.''

Garthwaite said the county will post the result of inspections of community clinics on its Web site.
