HE BANGS 'IDOL' ALSO-SANG WOWS SIX FLAGS CROWD.

Byline: Susan Abram Staff Writer

VALENCIA - As the minutes ticked past the noon hour Friday, the crowd became restless inside the Golden Bear Theatre.

The fans had come to Magic Mountain simply to see their idol and they were hungry for Hung.

``Hung! Hung! Hung!'' hundreds of fans chanted over the canned music heard overhead.

And then to their delight, the velvet curtains spread open and out walked the Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov.  Ricky Martin himself, dressed in casual beige khakis khak·i

From the moment he was cast off from ``American Idol'' last season, Hung was rescued by American hearts for his genuine candor.

Forget Justin Timberlake, the fans say. Who cares what P. Diddy is up to. They are divas. They are fools compared with Hung, who, so far, has kept it real.

``He's so hot!'' gasped an enthusiastic Cherie Turner, sporting a trucker's cap decorated with a photograph of Hung with a quote that made him endearing en·dear·ing

But as the girls reflected on the Hung phenomenon, they spoke with sincerity.

``He doesn't care what people think,'' Cherie said. ``He just loves to sing. He's a down-to-earth guy.''

``If you believe in a dream, and you try, then you will succeed,'' he said.

And the Hung phenomenon will continue, he said. His debut recording, ``Inspiration,'' has sold about 100,000 copies. He is working on a second album and a special DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

``I think he's so, so great to keep on singing,'' Padilla said. ``He was brave to go on the show.''

David Sashabaw, 32, called Hung his favorite reality television celebrity.

``He's just out there having fun,'' Sashabaw said. ``I think people want to make fun of him, but they can't because he's just so genuine.''

Nathan Duffy, 25, said it was refreshing to see a performer who didn't take himself so seriously.

``He's not self-conscious of himself,'' Duffy said. ``He got up there and sang a song and he happened to spark people's attention.''
