How about Moses?

Sandal-clad Mike ``Moses'' McCullough could be in the hunt again in competition that runs Friday through Sunday at Valencia Country Club.

McCullough, 55, who wandered through professional golf's winless wilderness for what must have seemed as long as the biblical Moses, finally found "Finally Found" was the debut single from the Honeyz. This was their most successful single in the UK and worldwide, securing a number 4 position in the UK singles chart and achieved platinum status in Australia [1] Tracklisting

the promised land two weeks ago. In his 31st year as a professional, and after a Senior Tour-record 151 consecutive events for which he was eligible, he broke through to record that first victory at the Mexico Senior Classic.

McCullough pocketed $225,000 for the win, the biggest paycheck of his career, and in the process became the only player to win a pro tournament wearing sandals, a fashion statement he has been making on golf courses for years.

``I catch a lot of flack from my buddies on the tour for playing golf in sandals,'' the Bowling Green Bowling Green.

 after that win.

But he had his reasons:

``They are extremely comfortable, and besides, I think I look pretty damn cool.''

McCullough was back in sandals under threat of rain in Sunday's final round of the Toshiba Senior Classic at Newport Beach Country Club, where he tied for 18th in his first outing since that memorable breakthrough victory in Mexico City.

He came within two shots of consecutive top-10 finishes, something he has accomplished two of the past three Senior Tour seasons while maintaining his marathon pace that shattered Bruce Summerhays' former consecutive-starts record of 96.

But Senior Tour veteran and former European Ryder Cup star Brian Barnes, working as an announcer at the Toshiba, said last week might have been a difficult time for McCullough to play his best, given the spent and leftover emotions of that first W.

``I think his mind is still in Mexico,'' Barnes said. ``When it's the first tournament ever won, it's very difficult to come right back and do it again.''

McCullough, a long hitter who finished as high as second in the 1977 Tournament Players Championship on the PGA Tour, ranks among the Senior Tour's top 10 in driving and eagles. He used his length to bunch some of his best tour outings last year in his fourth season in the 50-and-over ranks.

In September, he finished ninth in the Comfort Classic and followed with a sixth in the Kroger Senior Classic. In May, he finished 4-7 in back-to-back outings at the Nationwide Championship and TD Waterhouse events.

If that indicated he was close to making a breakthrough, McCullough underscored the trend with a fourth-place finish in his first appearance at the season-ending Senior Tour Championship, two weeks after taking third in the Cadillac NFL Golf Classic The NFL Golf Classic was a golf tournament on the Champions Tour from 1993 to 2002. It was played in May or June at the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, New Jersey. It was a joint production with the NFL and attracted top NFL talent to play in a tournament within a tournament .
