HDPEs for Large Heavy-Wall Water Pipe.Two new HDPEs for water pipe of 8-in, or larger diameter are available from Solvay Polymers, Houston. Fortiflex K44-06-122 (natural) and K4406-123 (black) are designed for large, thick-wall pipes, where high melt strength is critical. The base resin has a density of 0.944 g/cc and HLMI HLMI High Load Melt Index (flow characteristics of molten plastics determination) of 6.5. Its melt strength is 15-20% higher than Solvay's previous pipe grade of 8.5 HLMI, K44-08-122/123. The new resin's excellent dynamic viscosity dynamic viscosity n.
