HDMI Licensing, LLC Releases Updated Adopted Trademark and Logo Usage Guidelines.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) A digital interface for audio and video signals designed as a single-cable solution for home theater and consumer electronics equipment.  Licensing, LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

LLC - Logical Link Control
, the agent responsible for licensing the High-Definition Multimedia Interface The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a licensable audio/video connector interface for transmitting uncompressed, encrypted digital streams. HDMI connects DRM-enforcing digital audio/video sources, such as a set-top box, a Blu-ray Disc player, a PC running [R] (HDMI[R]) specification, today released, on behalf of the HDMI Founders, an updated version of the HDMI Adopted Trademark and Logo Usage Guidelines. The new guidelines are effective immediately and include information on permitted and non-permitted trademark usage.

The updated Adopted Trademark and Logo Usage Guidelines, available for download at http://www.hdmi.org, relate to the use of the HDMI trademark and logo placement on HDMI-compliant products and related packaging as well as web and marketing materials. The most notable changes in the guidelines are significant restrictions on the use of version numbers and new marketing requirements for cables.

Adopters will no longer be allowed to use HDMI specification version numbers in the labeling, packaging or promotion of their HDMI-compliant products. In the case of cable products, these restrictions are effective immediately. Non-cable products must comply with the new restrictions by January 1, 2012. These new requirements are designed to simplify the product selection process for consumers, enabling them to purchase an appropriate product based on features.

"Instead of relying on version numbers, we believe the new trademark and logo guidelines provide our Adopters with the right tools to market products incorporating specific HDMI features," said Steve Venuti, president of HDMI Licensing, LLC. "Gradually phasing out version numbers in CE products, eliminating them completely for cable products, and standardizing cable labeling goes a long way towards helping consumers identify the right products for their needs."
All HDMI cable products must be marketed and labeled as one of five types:
1. Standard HDMI Cable
2. Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet
3. Standard Automotive HDMI Cable
4. High Speed HDMI Cable
5. High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet
